Work In Progress Employment Specialist staff provide training and support services to assist participants in obtaining and maintaining employment that is consistent with their vocational goals, directed toward the goal of competitive employment in community settings, and incorporates mental health support services and mental health center clinical services.
Job Responsibilities
Receive consumer referral documents, engage clients and establish trusting collaborative relationships to complete a vocational career profile utilizing the client, other service providers and with permission, family members and past employers. Assist consumer with completing a fluent work history timeline. Develop participant resume and interviewing skills as needed.
Conducts job development, job search, job placement activities directed toward positions that are individualized to the needs, interests and uniqueness of each consumer,
Teach and provide essential job skills training to program participants on the work site with emphasis on building self awareness, mental health, employer relationships, engaging supports and accommodations, developing individualized employment goals, building interview and interpersonal skills. Model and observe skills and behaviors on the job site and provide in the community meetings with consumers and employers.
Provide follow-up services to program participants, to ensure job retention, and build long-term success.. Maintain contact with participants following employment model contact requirements and as often as deemed necessary and desirable by the consumer and the employer.
Act as liaison with partner agency staff and community resources.
Create records of services delivered and client status. Participate in daily and weekly treatment team meetings. Communicate regularly with mental health supervisors to ensure that services are integrated, to problem-solve programmatic issues, to advocate for supports, to generate ideas beneficial to consumers achieving their employment goals. and to serve as a champion for employment. Communicate individually with team members between meetings.
Attend, represent and participate in Work In Progress public relations events, fundraising and training events.
Provide other WIP duties as specified by management.
Position would report to: Program Team Leader Supervisor
Education Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services, Human Services
Previous Experience :
· Career development experience and experience working in the human services field. 1 year working with treatment and recovery of individuals who experience symptoms of mental illness.
Soft / Hard skills needed to be successful
· Communication skills
· Computer skills
Position Requirements
· Ability to lift 25 lbs
· Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time
Ability to navigate stairs unassisted
· Current driver’s license, vehicle, insurance
