Overview:
The Controller will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to execute the goals of the accounting and finance team. The Controller will drive the implementation of scalable systems, processes, and procedures to support growth. The Controller will also support decision-making through accurate, timely, and useful Accounting and Finance reports. The Controller will lead day-to-day finance operations and all activities related to the general ledger, balance sheet, payroll, annual financial audits, single audits, and grant audits. The Controller will have direct oversight over general accounting and finance functions, including regulatory reporting, general ledger integrity and control, reconciliations, accounts payable, payroll, and preparation of other reports, schedules, and analysis as needed. The Controller will lead and develop accounting staff and be accountable for their work productivity, performance goals, and evaluations.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinating month-end closing process, including daily accounting activities required to maintain the general ledger. Maintain organized and detailed records with files to document all financial transactions.

Provide accurate and timely financial information and reports to facilitate decision-making and keep CFO and Agency leaders informed about financial performance.

Preparing monthly and annual financial statements and coordination of the annual and single audit and 990 tax preparation with external auditors. Communicate appropriate guidance to the accounting staff to confirm monthly close process is consistent with GAAP accounting practices.
- Ensure and maintain adequate controls are in place for the finance/accounting function. Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and guidelines. Create and implement streamlined process improvements.
- Oversight over balance sheet reconciliations, review formats to support comprehensive workflows and year-end audit reviews.

Resolve complex accounting issues in collaboration with the CFO and external auditors.

Daily cash management including forecasting of cash inflow/outflow to ensure safe level of cash is available and that annual goals and budgets are on track.

Support Directors in agency’s annual budget development and load budgets in MIP software including department level budgets.

Preparing supporting schedules, aging reports and other analysis as needed.

Fixed asset and construction in progress oversight with recording accurate depreciation.

Allocate indirect costs and develop other expenses allocations as needed.
- Manage the finance team’s relationship with the development team to identify areas of opportunity within gifting process. Manage development donor portals to pull reports as needed for monthly close process.

Review and record revenues and expenses in accordance with accounting standards.

Perform other related duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required; MBA and or CPA preferred.

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in general accounting, monthly closing process, financial statement preparation, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
- Experience with MIP software preferred.

Proficiency in Microsoft Suite products with advanced skills in Excel.

Proven leadership success and development of staff are strongly preferred.

Strong experience in coordinating audit activities, budgeting, and financial reporting.

Ability to analyze and compile reports, invoices, and correspondence; comprehend and make inferences from written material; interpret federal, state, and local government laws and regulations regarding contracts and administration.
