JOB OVERVIEW
American Coastal Insurance Corp. is seeking a dynamic and experienced Vice President of Tax.
The Vice President of Tax is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely filings for federal and state corporate income tax compliance, preparation of financial accounting for income taxes, and tax audit support. In the first 12 months, this position will be focused on building infrastructure to move the tax function from an outsourced to in-house model.
Note: This is a hybrid position that would require attendance at our St. Petersburg, FL office.
TYPICAL ESSENTIAL DUTIES
· Prepares quarterly/annual GAAP and STAT tax provision for a suite of P&C and non-P&C entities for financial reporting in accordance with ASC 740 and SSAP 101 accounting principles and standards, including journal entry preparation and reconciliation of the tax accounts.
· Researches and interprets current and emerging tax issues.
· Prepares all insurance and non-insurance income tax returns, including reconciliation of accruals to final return.
· Supports internal and external financial reporting, including tax footnotes for 10-K and NAIC annual statements.
· Prepares memos and position statements required for audit and control procedures.
· Oversees outside tax consultant’s budget on matters requiring consultation.
· Calculates and coordinates intercompany settlements in accordance with the Company’s tax-sharing agreement.
· Prepares or reviews all insurance and non-insurance, premium, excise, and informational tax filings.
· Coordinates and tracks tax assessments, payments, and related processes.
· Oversees and leads all aspects of income tax audits.
· Provides ad hoc business and project support for various tax-related issues.
· Supports tax planning and strategy initiatives.
· Develops strong working relationships with key stakeholders with an emphasis on internal Controllership, Legal, Treasury, and FP&A, and external tax advisors.
· Maintains appropriate documentation of tax-related processes and procedures.
· Fosters a culture of innovation, transparency, and accountability within the department and between departments and others in the organization.

REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES
Education/Licensure: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field required. An advanced degree (MBA, Master’s degree in Accounting or equivalent) strongly preferred. Certified Public Accountant designation strongly preferred.
Experience: At least ten(10) years of experience preparing tax provisions and tax returns for P&C companies required. Tax experience working in public accounting is strongly preferred. Experience in Workday a plus. Global minimum tax experience a plus.
An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job may be acceptable in lieu of the Education and Experience requirements listed above.
Skills and Abilities
· Ability to analyze and interpret tax laws and regulations, technical guidance, tax journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations and apply and communicate the implications to the Company.
· Proficient understanding of U.S. tax laws and regulations applicable to property & casualty insurance companies is required.
· Proficient knowledge of ASC 740 and SSAP 101 income tax accounting required.
· Ability to: express facts and ideas in writing in a clear, convincing, and organized manner; listen effectively, and clarify information as needed to tax and non-tax internal and external stakeholders.
· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all levels of leadership, including C-Suite.
· Ability to understand objectives of the strategic plan and influence staff to achieve the goals.
· Proven experience in change management, status reporting, and issue/risk management, with emphasis on organizational skills, attention to detail, communication, and collaboration.
· Proven experience applying analytical and problem-solving skills when participating in or managing projects of varying sizes and complexities.
· Demonstrated success in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
· Excellent verbal and written communication proficiency.
· Strong interpersonal expertise, including use of tact, patience, courtesy, and collaboration.
· Demonstrable computer application skills including Microsoft Office Suite of programs and the ability to learn various internal and/or proprietary software packages. Strong Microsoft Excel skills required.
· Effective use of office machinery such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners.
Physical
· Position typically requires reaching, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
· Sedentary Work. The duties most often are considered Sedentary Work: exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
