Junior Data Engineer
Location: United States, Glenview, Flexible Hybrid Schedule
Team: Strategy
Reports to: Director, Data Operations and Strategy
Exempt/Full-time/Grade: 6
Primary Purpose
The Junior Data Engineer (JDE) is primarily responsible for supporting the design, testing, and maintenance of data pipelines, database architecture, and production data sources. As a part of the CHEST Data Team, the JDE will work closely with the Senior Data Engineer as well as act as a data SME in collaboration with the Data Analytics team to provide expertise in data blending and reporting data source creation. The JDE ensures the stability, reliability, and performance of our databases and SQL stored procedures. Essential Functions/Responsibilities

Engineer large, complex data sets that meet business requirements while maintaining an optimal data pipeline.

Design and develop Snowflake and MS SQL Server database objects and procedural code supporting various custom and 3rd party applications, including writing stored procedures, functions, and triggers.

Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using ETL Tools and SQL scripting.

Optimize and tune MS SQL databases and queries and perform database normalization.

Collaborate with application developers and data analysts to provide data services and support for existing and new applications.

Support and troubleshoot application issues and document solutions.

Monitor logs, keep our data secured, and backup processes on production systems.

Identify, design, and implement process improvements.

Perform deployment activities to test and production environments.

Ensure quality and stability of the databases, while implementing efficiencies to reduce application and database support costs.

Maintain data processes including (but not limited to) Snowflake Transformation processes, SSIS Packages and Python scripts.
Required Qualifications and Competencies

2 + years working with Snowflake, MS SQL Server

2 + years of SQL and database maintenance knowledge required including Stored Procedures and SSIS packages.

2 + years of experience in database design including referential integrity, with strong understanding of key data elements, table indexing, and database tuning required.

Experience working with CRM systems and data integrations

Demonstrated experience working with scripting languages (Python, Javascript, R, etc...)

Degree in Computer Science, Analytics, or a related field required
Additional Information
The annual base salary range for this position is USD $80,000 - $85,000. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items. CHEST considers factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, and market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
