PURPOSE
As the subject matter expert, the Chief Estimator will manage, coach, and grow a group of estimators. The Chief Estimator is responsible for accurately determining the quantity of materials, equipment, and labor hours needed to complete a particular project.
Estimating Role’s
- Ensures the completion of full quantity take-offs of all labor, equipment, and materials from project documents and identifies missing information.
- Working knowledge of estimating software, advanced skills using Microsoft Office Suite and a strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
- Prepares estimates and ensures that bids are completed accurately and on time.
- Review’s specifications, addendums, blueprints and drawings.
- Work with internal team members such as project managers, coordinators, and superintendents to assist in information-gathering for accurate bid submission.
- Oversee the weekly bid list and estimating meeting. To make sure the team is bidding on the appropriate opportunities.
- Collaborate with the Leadership team on bid margins and provide backup for suggestions or requests for modifications when necessary.
Team Training and Development Role’s
- Builds and develops new and existing business relationships with General Contractors, Business Owners, Architects, Engineers, Clients, Suppliers and Vendors.
- Conducts risk and opportunity analysis by reviewing all bid related documents and utilizing project and industry knowledge.
- Actively coach, develop, share, and mentor estimating team members to improve capability, morale, and give possibilities for progression within Ritsema
- Develop trust and maintain a collaborative and supportive presence with the Project Management team.
- Monitors backlog and maintains an even flow of work.
REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Ten years commercial interior construction estimating experience or similar trade.
- Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and problem-solve.
- Knowledge of commercial estimating, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgeting, and bid review. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, technical specification manuals, etc.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills to interact with internal and external customers, including employees.
- Strong networking skills to work with existing clients and develop new relationships and business opportunities.
- Computer skills include MS Office, MS Project & digital takeoff software.
- Drug test and background check required.
- Good driving record
