Job Title: Teacher Assistant/Float Teacher
Classification: Full Time 32 – 40 hrs/week / Hourly/ Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $15- $17
Schedule: Monday – Friday
Reports To: Early Childhood Education Director
Job Summary:
The Float Teacher supports all classrooms by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education. They must be able to communicate, listen and work well with others in a team environment. A Float Teacher helps implement a quality educational program by developing positive relationships with the children and their parents while maintaining all Vermont Childcare Licensing requirements. The Float Teacher jumps in where is needed. Float Teachers are responsible for implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Associate Teacher, Classroom Coordinator and the Director.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in the classroom teachers in implementation of curriculum activities and encourage participation by children with the guidance of the Teacher Associate or Classroom Coordinator.
- Provide developmentally appropriate supervision for all the children when counted in ratio.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with children, parents and coworkers.
- Actively engage in keeping the classrooms clean and organized
- Cover classrooms for teachers to work on planning and team meetings
- Cover the kitchen when the food program coordinator is out or needs an extra set of hands
- Help complete all required documentation and paperwork in the classroom including the details of a child’s activities throughout their day.
- Maintain an Individual Professional Development Plan
- Complete a minimum of 18 hours of training each year.
- Sit with the children during meal times and model good eating habits.
- Be flexible as a floater you never know what the day will bring and what the needs are going to be
- Attend monthly staff meeting.
- Engage in SAPCC events, activities and fundraisers.
- Follow SAPCC Employee Handbook, Center policies and procedures, state regulations, and PlayWorks Protocols and Procedures document

- Maintain a positive professional attitude
- Any additional tasks assigned by the Director or Classroom Coordinator.
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years of age
- At least 1-year experience working with children under the age of 6 years old.
- Highschool Diploma/GED and Childcare Fundamentals or one 3 credit college course in child development.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Be able to give and receive feedback in your work environment.
- Highly developed professional ethics standards
- Access to reliable transportation
- Ability to pass any required background checks
- Be able to maintain a professional environment
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
