Mount Sinai Doctors Long Island has been serving the surrounding communities since 1945. We began in Huntington with 3 physicians, the first board certified physicians in Suffolk County. Today we have over 75 physicians in 21 specialties who continue the Group’s tradition of quality. In 1995, the Group became part of the Mount Sinai Health System. We have access to Mount Sinai’s vast referral network and latest treatment options. In the summer of 2018 we moved from our original Huntington location into a newly constructed state-of-the-art facility at 5 Cuba Hill Road in Greenlawn. We also have offices in Nesconset.
Our new facility offers a wide range of health care providers in twenty one different specialties, on-site imaging, and lab services, all under one roof. We are proud to offer our patients the newest imaging technology including 3-D mammography, PETCT and a wide bore MRI.
We are seeking two fulltime Echocardiography Technicians for our Cardiology Department.
JOB TITLE: Echocardiography Technician
DEPARTMENT: Cardiology
General Summary:
Under general supervision of licensed physicians performs and/or assists in performing echocardiography examinations in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures. Sets up, adjusts, and operates echocardiography equipment. Responds to patients’ needs as required. Maintains cleanliness of equipment and general working area, stocking clinical supplies. Ensures proper operation of echocardiography equipment. Provides care to patients of all ages in the form of diagnostic testing. Registered Ultrasound Technologist: registry with ICAEL or similar group.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities (Competencies):
- Under supervision of physicians prepares patients and examination areas in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Sets up, cleans and adjusts echocardiography equipment. Observes safety precautions both for equipment maintenance and patient well-being. Provides patient orientation prior to examination session.
- Under supervision, performs or assists in performing echocardiogram evaluation in accordance with established clinical protocols. Operates and adjusts equipment, observing safety guidelines. Responds to patients’ needs during testing. May perform specialized diagnostic examinations as permitted by experience or registry.
- Records echocardiogram measurements in the electronic medical record.
- Maintains clean work area and maintains full stock of applicable clinical supplies.
- Ensures good working order of equipment. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems or seeks technical assistance for equipment malfunctions, keeping supervisor(s) appropriately informed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or required as professional technologist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- Job requires a minimum level of knowledge ordinarily acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent NYS-accredited training program in echocardiography.
2. Prior work experience of six months is desired in order to gain familiarity on-the-job with administration of ultrasound testing. Should be familiar with sonographic equipment. New ultrasound technologists require period of 30 days in order to orient themselves to techniques and work area. Registered Ultrasound Technologist: registry with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers or equivalent certifying organization is a preferred credential for this position.
3. Good analytical skills necessary for handling of ultrasound patients during administration of diagnostic testing. Must be able to appropriately assess the correct action to take during testing, while being cognizant of patient well-being.
4. Good interpersonal manner important during delivery of patient care in order to ensure harmonious provision of ultrasound examinations and testing.
5. Work requires manual dexterity for use of sonographic equipment and instruments. Light lifting of clinical supplies may be required. Adequate physical strength required for positioning of patient and equipment during examinations.
Working Conditions:
1. Incumbents work under clinical conditions, which may involve exposure to bio hazardous substances and materials. Incumbents may be required to wear protective equipment during the administration of diagnostic testing.

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51.13 - $54.19 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
