SUMMARY: Vergys is seeking a part-time Resource Specialist to assist in creating and standardizing position descriptions for civilian hiring in a DoD organization. You will play a critical role in ensuring all position descriptions accurately reflect the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications necessary for successful recruitment. Position is located in Washington D.C. (our main offices) with expected meetings and work at the client location in Alexandria, VA.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with hiring managers across various departments to gather and analyze technical job requirements, qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) needed for open positions.
- Utilize experience with OPM Series 201 General Schedule (GS) position descriptions as a framework to tailor new or revise existing position descriptions specific to the needs of the DoD office.
- Draft clear, concise, and job-specific language for the duties, responsibilities, and qualification sections of standardized position descriptions.
- Research and stay updated on DoD and federal HR regulations, classification standards, and best practices for position description development.
- Maintain a detailed and organized record of position descriptions and revision history.
- May assist with other HR administrative tasks as assigned, such as assisting with recruitment efforts by developing interview questions and evaluation criteria aligned with the position description and maintaining/updating HR information systems with accurate and current position description data.
- May provide guidance and consultation to hiring managers on effective position description writing practices.
These duties require an understanding of the DoD environment and dynamics as well as an understanding of current and emerging policies and trends that require consideration in the development of the plan.
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Experience and knowledge of Federal human capital management, specifically the DoD
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Human Resources, specifically in developing or revising position descriptions.
- Proven ability to analyze and translate complex job duties into clear and concise descriptions.
- Familiarity with DoD human resources policies and procedures (preferred).
- Strong understanding of Office of Personnel Management (OPM) standards, classification decisions, impact of designated duties on classification, and complaint and appeal procedures to employees.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to tailor language for different audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of experience in human capital strategy, talent management, career development, workforce planning and organizational development
- Previous experience working in or for the Federal Government, specifically DoD human resources, is strongly preferred.
