Primary Purpose: Supervise, support and provide direction for the Academic Division in the implementation of district and campus academic priorities.
Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:
- Master's degree from an accredited university with a degree in related field.
- Doctorate preferred.
- Valid Texas administrator certificate or equivalent valid certificate from another state.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Demonstrated success as a district leader.
- Knowledge and understanding of PK-12 district organizations, operations, policies, goals and objectives.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills required to achieve the goals of the position.
Experience:
- Five (5) to ten (10) years of directly related experience.
- Experience supervising campus leaders is preferred.
- Experience in successful supervising, coaching and mentoring of leaders.
- Experience in strategic planning and ability to establish programs and policies.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional and Program Management:
- Manage and support district and campus leadership in the implementation of the district’s instructional priorities. Provide support to Principals with a focus on strengthening and evaluating leadership practices that effectively improve teaching and learning.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Science of Reading and be able to implement a district-wide strategic plan to ensure every child is reading on or above grade level at the end of second grade.
- Manage and support strategic leadership development and expansion of a leadership pipeline in collaboration with the Associate Superintendent of Administration and Talent.
- Provide support to the Community Superintendents’ in the supervision of Principals, including evaluation of performance, coaching and leadership development.
- Conduct regular campus visits with Principals, Executive Directors, Directors and Senior Staff.
- Review Campus Improvement Plans and goals, and assess student achievement.
- Provide input into the selections and assignment of school administrators.
- Work cooperatively with other Senior Staff members to monitor the District Improvement plan and provide support to campus leaders.
- Provide leadership and coordination of policies and administrative regulations.
- Knowledge, understanding, and ability to implement the Effect Schools Framework.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Superintendent’s priorities on literacy, numeracy, and student supports to be able to ensure every child academic success.
- Provide strategic focus and support on Emergent Bilingual (EB) students to exit students from the EB program before entering middle school.
- Observe professional and ethical standards in accordance with generally accepted community standards and the Texas Educator’s Code of Ethics.
- Directs and integrates services such as academic programs, special education and student services in order to provide efficient delivery of education.
- Plans, develops, organizes and implements curriculum, programs and review of services and professional development consistent with identified needs which will result in continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
- Develop, implement and monitor standards for all programs pertaining to the District’s special education, counseling services, and English Language Learner services.
- Oversee state and federal legislation related to special education and ensure local compliance.
- Supervises and holds accountable the performance outcomes and professionalism of academic staff and their respective teams.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of significant trends in education, legislation and regulations impacting the District.
- Provide support to Principals with a focus on strengthening leadership practices that effectively improve teaching and learning.
- Support campus leadership in the implementation of the district’s instructional priorities.
Policy, Reports and Law:
- Provide leadership and coordination of policies and administrative regulations.
- Implement the policies established by Federal and State laws, State Board of Education rule and local Board policy in the area of academics.
- Compile, maintain and present all physical and computerized reports, records and other documents required.
Budget:
- Responsible for district, state and federal budgets that support District academic goals.
- Review budgets and ensure that programs are cost effective and alignment with Superintendent priorities.
- Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented academic and program needs.
Personnel Management:
- Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
- Recruit and retain quality staff.
Communication:
- Conduct self in a professional, ethical and responsible manner.
- Enhance District communication and problem solving.
- Monitor professional research and disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.
Community Relations:
- Ability to articulate District T-2-4 goal specifically in the academic areas to the community.
- Demonstrate awareness of District-community needs and support activities to meet those needs.
Other:
- Perform all other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent, or as may be necessary for job effectiveness.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise and evaluate the performance of the Executive Directors in the area of academics.
