About New Mexico Military Institute:NMMI is a state-supported, co-educational college preparatory high school (accredited college preparatory curriculum) and junior college, complete with Junior and Senior ROTC programs. Robust and demanding academic, athletic, and leadership programs prepare the 900-member Corps of Cadets for the many challenges and opportunities they will experience within the Institute and beyond.
Position The Deputy Commandant of Cadets for Operations (DCO) reports to the Commandant of Cadets and assumes the role of the Commandant in their absence. The DCO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the 900-member Corps of Cadets and works in partnership with the Deputy Commandant for Training and Service (DCTS) and the Deputy Commandant for Support (DCS). Primary duties include but are not limited to managing the Commandant's Calendar & the daily training schedule, cadet accountability, cadet discipline, cadet development, and health & welfare. The DCO reviews cadet performance and provides recommendations to advance cadet professional/leadership development. The DCO supports the Leadership Character Development Program (LCDP) as a facilitator. The DCO must work well and develop a positive rapport with cadets, parents, guardians, faculty and staff, and community members associated with The Institute. They must be well-read in the Operations and Procedures Manual, Blue Book, Academic Catalogue, and other source materials associated with The Institute. This is a 12-month, full–time position. The pay range is $75,000.00 to $85,000.00. The job description is available upon request.
Tasks:
· Oversees the primary cadet accountability platform, 'Tour Squad,' to ensure all cadets adhere to the Cadet Tour Squad and Work Tours Guidelines consistently and fairly. The guidelines require annual revisions to improve the Guidelines and increase its effectiveness.
· Serves as the primary disciplinarian for high school and junior college cadets; reviews disciplinary investigative reports daily and administers the discipline per the New Mexico Military Institute Blue Book.
· Other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills:
· Ability to obtain knowledge of NMMI rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures, including a detailed understanding of the "Blue Book," Cadet Learning Outcomes, and Parent Cadet Contract, and a general understanding and familiarity with Troop Leadership Advisor job responsibilities.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Sound judgment and listening skills in resolving problems.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage heavy workloads.
Qualifications:
Required:
· A master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university emphasizing leadership, counseling, communications, secondary or higher education.
· The ability to exercise excellent leadership skills in a stressful and fluid environment is required.
· Understand and embrace the military model of education.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Computer/information system management experience.
Preferred:
· Military experience as a captain (03) or a minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a senior supervisor in a military boarding school.
· Bilingual capability.
