Full-Time Elementary Autistic Support Classroom Teacher for 7/8/24 - 7/26/24
*Students are in school from 7/8/24-7/25/24; 7/26/24 is an in-service for progress monitoring
Hours: 8:00am - 2:00pm (teachers have 1 hour of prep each day)
8:30am - 1:30pm (students in class)
Position Summary
This position is for an ESY opening, with the opportunity for continued employment during the start of the active school year in the Fall. Southwood School is a licensed, private academic school currently hiring full time Emotional Support (ES) teachers (max caseload 12) and full time Autistic Support (AS) teachers (max caseload 8) who will be responsible for providing educational services to children and adolescents within each of the programs. These students all have various educational needs, so Southwood is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and organized individual to fill the role. The Special Education Teacher's responsibilities include educational assessment, school behavioral assessment, academic programming, and completion of special education paperwork. The program supervisors encourage creativity and welcome fresh ideas so that each classroom maintains a positive and welcoming learning environment for both staff and students. Act 48 hours can be earned through in-service trainings.
Unit Specific Performance Objectives
1. Completes educational assessments within specified time period and communicates results appropriately.
2. Reassess educational needs and educational strategies as needed and/or directed.
3. Adheres to treatment plans and participates in treatment team meetings as requested.
4. Supervises classroom and maintains a positive environment for learning.
5. Plans, implements, and monitors educational programs, and makes recommendations regarding appropriate improvements.
6. Completes due process requirements (Re-evaluation Report, IEP - individual educational plans, NOREP - Notice of Recommended Education Placement, Invitation and Procedural Safeguards) for enrolled students.
7. Identifies the potential for crisis situations, intervenes as necessary, and assumes the lead in resolving conflicts.
8. Discusses and debriefs incidents and problem solves with students.
9. Engages in de-escalation techniques to avoid power struggles and incidents.
10. Interacts with students positively and supportively.
11. Develops or assists with the development of educational aftercare plans.
12. Develops or assists with the development of school curricula.
13. Act as liaison with student's home school district - gathers pertinent educational documents and facilitates transition.
14. Identifies group and individual goals and objectives and monitors/documents progress.
15. Implements individual and group behavior modification and incentive strategies.
16. Provides feedback and training to paraprofessionals.
17. Problem solves and plans strategies with paraprofessionals to support student development.
18. Participates in own performance process.
19. Possesses knowledge of age specific growth and development.
20. Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.
21. Performs other duties as requested.
Job Requirements
1. Bachelor’s degree in Special Education.
2.Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
3.Experience preferred.
4.CCM(Comprehensive Crisis Management) certification must be maintained to include annual refresher.
5.CPR certification renewed bi-annually or upon expiration of certification.
5.Must be knowledgeable of the developmental stages and behaviors for age group of assigned clients
6. Maintains competence in identified universal, core and critical competencies.
7. Valid Act 34/34 clearances
8.Must meet job competencies within 90 days of hire.
