DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinates the enforcement and application of various codes, ordinances and technical specifications for structural plumbing facilities, structures and systems to assure conformance with plans and specifications. Prepares, conducts and reviews various types of inspections, such as funnels, manholes, shaft sites and new construction or construction revisions for compliance with specifications. Identifies problem areas and recommends solutions. Prepares and serves correction notices and may serve violation citations. Meets with general public, contractors, technical professional and businesses to respond to inquiries and technical problems. Performs daily record keeping activities to maintain filling systems, reports and documentation including photographs taken during inspections. Researches and evaluates plumbing plans, specifications and drawings. Prepares and submits various technical reports. Performs plumbing inspections on all permitted work for code compliance. Performs investigations of unpermitted work and issues citations. Assists supervisor with special tasks as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position routinely requires lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking, driving, standing on a routine basis.
This is a Department of Houston Public Works Emergency Management Position at the Tier III Level.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires High School Diploma or G.E.D. and up to 18 months of education or training in the area of inspection to be performed.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Two (2) years of journey level or skill experience related to the area of inspection to be performed are required.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and be in compliance with the City of Houston policy on driving (AP 2-2).
Preference shall be given to applicants who are licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners and who possess Med Gas endorsement. Preference shall be given to applicants who have obtained IAPMO Plumbing Inspector Certificate; OR it is preferred that these license/certificates within 6 months of employment. Preference may be given to applicants who are certified by the International Code Counsel (ICC) and/or Interantional Associations of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). Preference may also be given to applicants who are fluent in Spanish.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**
