Museum Attendant
Job Description
Summary:
The Museum Attendant is responsible for the overall administrative duties relating the Museum.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 18 years old. Ability to work independently and efficiently. Pleasant and friendly personality.
Supervisor:
The Museum Attendant reports to the Historical Society.
Essential Functions:
- Open and close Museum/Annex on assigned days.
- Give tours to Museum visitors, and groups.
- Answer phones and emails. Respond to calls and emails or share with the Board.
- Conduct daily inspections on Haupt Yehl House, annex and grounds.
- Report any issues that need correction to Board. i.e. bugs, burnt out bulbs etc.
- Perform minor maintenance. (dust surfaces, clean glass, etc.)
- Ability to learn Past Perfect collections management software.
- Using Past Perfect catalogue items into collection.
- Assist in pulling items from collection for exhibit set up.
- Properly restore items back into collection after exhibit close.
- Assist with mailing of quarterly newsletter.
- Assists with traveling trunk program. (take boxes and make presentations).
- Establishes contacts and records efforts of outreach to community to share programs, exhibits, etc.
- Seek out those interested in joining the Society by phone or email from lists provided.
- Follow up regularly with members about upcoming programs and events.
- Other duties as assigned by President.
Psychological Considerations:
- The Museum Attendant is responsible for a safe work area.
- Must have the ability to lift 20 pounds.
Environmental Considerations:
- May be required to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds when setting up or taking down.
Cognitive Considerations:
- Must possess good safety awareness and judgment.
- Must be friendly and like to work with people of all ages.
- Employee must listen, hear and speak.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and
the ability to adjust and focus.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Must be able to follow direction from supervisor with safe and effective follow
through.
- Worker must be able to use good safety and awareness and judgment.
