Special Education Consultant Teacher
John F. Kennedy Middle School (Grades 6-8)
Position Title: Special Education, Consultant Teacher, grades 6-8 (Probationary)
Location: Cheektowaga-Sloan Union Free School District, John F. Kennedy Middle School
Salary/Pay Scale: $43,953 - $54,207 commensurate with experience (with an additional $2,200 for Masters Degree as per the TAC contract)
Position Summary/Purpose:
In the Cheektowaga-Sloan UFSD, the faculty and staff are dedicated to creating a positive learning environment that recognizes all students' unique needs and talents by combining character education with a curriculum based on critical thinking. The emphasis is on teaching the whole child to create lifelong learners best prepared for college, their careers, and beyond.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS:
- Show evidence of thoughtful and reflective lesson planning
- Identify and implement specific student learning outcomes to be attained in relation to student learning needs and IEP objectives
- Make data-driven decisions and maintain appropriate documentation
- Apply appropriate teaching strategies consistent with student needs, selected curriculum, and time allocations
- Make appropriate accommodations for each student's physical, educational, or behavioral disabilities
- Create a welcoming classroom environment where every student feels respected and supported
- Consult and collaborate with support staff and administration regarding strategies that will enable all students to achieve success
- Collaborate with colleagues and parents to ensure student success and well-being
- Make appropriate use of instructional time, maintain an appropriate physical environment, and appropriate individual, class, and program records
- Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive learning environment with high expectations that encourage student responsibility and leadership
- Knowledge of educating the whole child by supporting academic, social, and emotional growth
- Participate in professional development opportunities to continuously enhance teaching skills
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors
Requirements & Qualifications:
- NYSED Certification in Special Education 7-12 required
- NYSED Certification in Special Education, grade 6, is preferred but not required
- Content Certification of ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies is preferred but not required
- Experience as a special education teacher at the middle and high school level is preferred but not required
