We are a small place with a small team (often just 2-3 staff working at a time) but offer a large menu (can be found at http://farmhouse-pantry.com/menu/: breakfast, lunch, dinner, as well as some baked goods, frozen meals, and retail items), which makes for a large variety of kitchen-related tasks: short-order/line-cook work preparing made-to-order meals, prep work/mise-en-place, and dishes/cleaning. Things can swing from quiet to busy fast; multi-tasking and speed a must!
We are currently seeking a cook to assist with all kitchen/food-preparation duties; the hours and duties to some extent can be tailored to an applicants skills and interests. Our kitchen duties include prep work, baking, and line cook/short-order cook duties, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner periods 5 days per week. Applicants should be able to execute a variety of tasks, often solo. Possibility for front-of-house counter/barista work if desired as well.
General duties include:
- Learning and preparing all made-to-order menu items both efficiently and safely (cooking items to proper temperatures, avoiding cross-contamination with raw or allergen products, etc), to include breakfast items, salads, sandwiches, fries, stovetop/saute items, and pizza.
- Batch preparation of cold salads (coleslaw, pickled beets, potato salad, etc), hot soups, par-cooking home fries and french fries, mixing dressings and sauces, etc
- Mise-en-place preparation of menu item components: slicing onions, cheeses, cold cuts; seasoning and portioning meats; cutting vegetables; dredging tofu; etc
- Following sanitary and food-safety practices and maintaining a clean work area
- Dishwashing and general cleaning
Basic Qualifications:
- 18 years of age or older (required for serving alcohol)
- Be available to work during the days and times listed
- Be punctual, arriving on-time, and have the reliable transportation to do so
- Be friendly, welcoming, personable, respectful, and informative when/if assisting guests
- Ability to multitask and efficiently work in a safe and sanitary manner
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Proper hygiene
- Be a fast learner, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and request clarification when needed
- Be detail-oriented, accurate, and consistent
- Basic knowledge of various foods: produce, meat cuts, baked goods/pastries, culinary terms
Recommended Qualifications:
While we are happy to train the right individual of any experience level, the following skills or experience would be helpful:
- Experience working in a restaurant or commercial kitchen with some high-paced periods
- Knife skills
- Familiarity with local foods, farmers, and food-producers
- Food-safety and sanitation knowledge (allergens, cross-contamination, proper food handling, temperature requirements during cooking and reheating, etc)
Schedule:
We are somewhat flexible at this time regarding shift times and amounts. We require at least one weekend and one weekday shift. Part time or approaching full-time.
Compensation:
$18-24/hr to start (higher DOE and/or after training and demonstrated performance)
1 hour paid-time-off per 30 hours worked
60% discount on shift meal/drink
10% anytime discount
