What We Need… Freelance Medical/Science Editor
A freelance medical/science editor has professional experience working as an independent editor for a medical communication company and other content creators in the biotechnology and pharmaceutical space. The ideal candidate has excellent editing and writing skills and is comfortable working across various programs and media. They are responsive, can edit appropriately across the different phases involved in developing and updating deliverables, and are willing to handle all relevant editorial steps of a project in a fast-paced environment. This is a remote contract opportunity.
Responsibilities

Edit, proof, and fact-check written, electronic, and interactive deliverables across all brands, with the ability to adhere to AMA Manual of Style and client-specific styles and directives, keeping current with ever-evolving guidelines; ensure consistency and medical and scientific accuracy within and across deliverables.

Work with project managers to achieve an appropriate level of edit and reasonable turnaround times on deliverables

Understand how to work with/update style guides
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required

5 to 10 years of medical experience previously working in-house, or as a freelance editor, for a medical communications company, a biotech or pharma company, or a medical publisher

Have extensive familiarity with and comfort editing medical/scientific content—from foundational concepts and disease states to more highly scientific material

Excellent working knowledge of the AMA Manual of Style, 11th edition

ELS certification encouraged

Affiliation with professional associations such as the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) or Council of Science Editors (CSE) a plus

Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Soft skills: excellent interpersonal skills, superb time management skills, highly organized, ability to work well under pressure; strong problem-solving skills; strong communication skills (both verbal and written); ability to work on multiple projects concurrently; ability to adapt and change within a dynamic environment
