SSVF Peer Support Specialist
Responsibilities include:
Assist in increasing social support networks of relatives, friends, or community programs.
Provide training in the use of personal and community resources.
Offer support and encouragement in time of crisis.
Provide Veterans support while obtaining VA benefits and services.
Establish a support connection through coaching and mentoring based on assessments, service plans, and needs identified by the CTI Housing Navigators.
Develop and utilize a broad network of resources to best fit the Veteran family’s needs.
Help individuals as they identify and work towards their goals and address long term financial stability needs.
Provide emotional and informational support for permanent housing by assessing strengths, desires, and immediate/long term needs of the Veteran family.
Collaborates with Veteran or Veteran family to develop and implement personal wellness and life goals.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, skills, and abilities):
Belief in and adherence to Housing First principles is required
Knowledge of issues facing people experiencing homelessness is required.
Knowledge of community resources and an ability to work within communities to develop new resources that assist people experiencing homelessness.
Excellent communication skills, writing skills, and an ability to speak in public are necessary in completing duties of this position. Must communicate in a manner that is compassionate, patient, and respectful.
Must get Certified Peer Recovery Specialist certification within one year of hire date.
Willingness to become trained in other recovery-based programs.
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
Lived experience of homelessness or Veteran status is preferred.
