JOB DESCRIPTION
ITD Helpdesk is seeking a Jr. Technical Support Specialist to provide technical support and customer service to our staff members at the Theory School location. Reporting to the Help Desk Manager, under general supervision, the Jr. Technical Support will be responsible for but not limited to:
- Responsible for all Network Infrastructure, office, and mobile automation under the supervision of IT management at Flushing.
- Provide technical assistance and support for incoming concerns and issues related to systems, software, and hardware.
- Configure and maintain appropriate software and functions according to specifications.
- Check computer hardware (HDD, mouse, keyboard, etc.) to ensure functionality.
- Phone setup and monitoring.
- Hardware/software installation, updates, configuration, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.
- Maintain daily performance of computer systems.
- Run diagnostic problems to resolve problems.
- Resolve technical problems with Local Area Networks (LAN), Wide Area Networks (WAN), and other systems.
- Assist with troubleshooting and upgrade of network and Wi-Fi.
- Provide onsite assistance to troubleshooting, configuration, and maintenance of mainframe, network, desktops, and Windows OS, working along with IT at Flushing.
- Monitor and Support Backup Software Systems.
- Responsible for tracking hardware/software inventory.
- Receive, setup and configure equipment and software.
- Proactively inspect equipment, repair anything not working and inform IT management of anything unable to repair.
- Keep IT management informed of all activities, requests from business and outstanding items.
- Assist in preparation for and conducting Disaster Recovery testing.
- Installation of Projectors, TVs, Speakers, Amplifiers, and Sound Masking
- Installation of Mounts and hardware on various wall types and ceiling types for Projectors, Displays, Speakers and Wireless Microphones
- Dress and route cable from IT closets to device locations (AV Equipment Rack, TV, Projector, Speakers)
- AV/Technical knowledge of current conference room technology.
- Manage content of broadcasts or presentations.
- Oversee microphone placement and conduct sound check.
- Testing of each individual piece of equipment ensures equipment is set to factory specifications to obtain optimum performance and report system problems immediately including solutions and/or recommendations.
- Review schedules for next-day requests to ensure equipment is operational.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- IT work Help Desk Environment with physical demands prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequently to lift, carry, reach, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including but not limited to all IT Help Desk Equipment.
- General office work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
- In a 7-hour workday, must be able to lift /carry:
- 50 to 100+ pounds occasionally
- 25 to 50 pounds frequently
- 10 to 20 pounds regularly
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time onsite 35 hours per week– Non-Exempt (OPEIU Local 153) position.
Work Location
Theory School located on 107 West 33rd Street NY, NY 10001
- Approximately ten (10) months out of the year will be in Manhattan beginning the week following Labor Day through the 3rd/4th week of June.
- Shift is Monday-Thursday, 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM, Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM,
JIBEI located on 158-11 Harry Van Arsdale Jr Ave Fresh Meadows, NY 11365
- Approximately two (2) months out of the year will be in Fresh Meadows when classes are not in session beginning either the 3rd/4th week of June and ending Friday following Labor day.
- Shift is Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at our Flushing location during summer break at the Theory School.
Flexibility: Must be able to work overtime when necessary.
Travel -- Occasional local travel may be required for this position.
Required Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
- Significant experience with Microsoft Windows and desktop products.
- Experience repairing and replacing desktop computers and component parts.
- Proven experience working with a Windows domain (adding/removing accounts and password resets).
- Experience using hard drive imaging software and web conferencing hardware and software.
- Prior customer service experience.
- Well-versed in using Google, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge in order to assist members working on their systems at home taking online courses.
- Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to work well with others in demanding and stressful situations with tight deadlines.
- Must be a quick learner, take initiative to research possible solutions, and communicate with IT management before taking any action that could possibly render equipment or services unusable.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment and stay on task.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) to support interactions with, visitors, guests, students, and other stakeholders as well as Management and Staff.
- Knowledge of inventory management is highly desirable, ability to order, stock and track all supplies and equipment utilized in the Center operations and communicate status report.
- Familiarity with the operation of personal computers is essential, particularly e-mail and Microsoft Windows based office programs. (Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.).
Desired Skills
- Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA).
- Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA).
- CompTIA A+ certified.
