Grant Specialist:
The Grant Specialist is responsible for researching, preparing, submitting, and facilitating the grant process from pre-award to post-award and includes monitoring, reporting, and compliance. This position requires strong skills in writing, data analysis, program budgeting, project management, and outcome measurement.
Duties Performed:
- Explore and research diverse types of grant opportunities and the criteria to qualify for each grant.
- Discuss available sources of funding with managers and leadership and take the lead on grant proposal development and submission.
- Prepare and organize materials for proposals; submit and monitor grant applications in alignment with the agency's key business results
- Draft proposals/LOIs, grant application narratives, and budgets according to application requirements. Ensure grants are submitted on time and within application parameters. When applicable, prepare and submit grant revisions.
- Write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- Maintain a master calendar of grant opportunities, including deadline dates and required materials.
- Maintains grant prospects and all associated files and correspondence and maintains grant support documents.
- Monitor grant spending to ensure grant funds are used in the performance time period.
- Utilize excellent time management and organizational skills to establish grant proposal timelines and best practices.
- Execute thank you letters and facilitate grant contracts/agreements, ensuring acknowledgment of and building relationships with funding sources.
- Work with key team members to maintain grant compliance and reporting, including outcome measurements and grant budgets.
- Act as a liaison between grant stakeholders, including funding sources, program staff, finance staff, and leadership.
- Remain up to date on funding source expectations, compliance requirements, and federal, state, and local grant guidance and regulations.
- Coordinate with finance and program staff; monitor and compare grant budget with actual reports, ensuring costs charged to the grant are reasonable, necessary, allowable, and properly reported.
- Work as a team member, maintain effective working relationships, collaborate on projects, and foster a cooperative and positive work environment.
- Use independent judgment, work well under pressure, seek and synthesize information, and communicate compellingly and succinctly.
- Perform tasks with a focus on exemplary customer service, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education/Credentials/Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English, Creative Writing, Journalism, Communications, or Marketing; a Master’s degree preferred.
- Five or more years of experience in grant writing with successful outcomes.
- 10+ years of professional experience in the non-profit sector is preferred.
- Certified Grant Writer (CGW).
Knowledge of:
- Federal, state, and private foundations with demonstrated familiarity and experience working with such entities.
- Diversity and inclusion with the relevant ability to engage, communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people of different backgrounds, identities, and culturally diverse communities.
- Advanced computer keyboarding, programs, and software (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and funding databases, etc.) with demonstrated proficiency.
- Non-profit behavioral health sector or desire and mindset to learn and enhance knowledge.
- Organizational sensitivity regarding complex relationships with federal, state, and local agencies, government entities, and personnel preferred.
