Reports To: Building Director
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, Education, or a related field.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Reading Specialist (BR) endorsement.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of successful classroom teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
- Experience in administering and interpreting reading assessments and data.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Deep understanding of reading and literacy development, instructional strategies, and intervention techniques.
- Strong data analysis skills and the ability to use data to inform instruction.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to design and deliver effective professional development.
- Proficiency in using educational technology and digital literacy tools.
Position Summary: The Reading Specialist will:
- Coordinate and support in assessing all students' reading levels
- Analyze collective student data, as well as individual student data
- Provide targeted reading interventions
- Support teachers in implementing effective reading strategies to enhance student literacy
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and parents to promote a comprehensive literacy program and ensure students achieve academic success
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Data Analysis:
- Whole School Level:
- Support teachers in the administration of reading assessments
- Interpret reading assessments to identify students' reading levels and areas of need.
- By class
- By individual students
- Monitor and track student progress using various data collection tools and systems.
- Work with Building Director to create a data collection process
- Analyze data to inform instruction and intervention strategies.
- Ie: determining MTSS needs: Tier 2 (push in) and Tier 3 (pull out)
- Intervention and Instruction:
- Design and implement targeted reading interventions
- Provide one-on-one and small group instruction to improve reading skills (pull out).
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction and integrate reading strategies across the curriculum (push-in).
- Teacher Support and Professional Development:
- Train and support teachers in the use of effective reading strategies and interventions.
- Conduct professional development workshops and ongoing training sessions focused on literacy instruction.
- Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback to teachers to improve their literacy teaching practices.
- Program Development and Implementation:
- Assist in developing and implementing a comprehensive literacy program aligned with school, district, and state goals.
- Update materials and assessments, and align curriculum
- Stay current with research and best practices in reading instruction and literacy development.
- Manage the resources in the library
- Contribute to the selection and evaluation of reading curricula and materials.
- Keep an inventory of the books and materials
- Work with teachers to continually update
- Develop a reading summer program
- An at-home summer program for kids
- Work with Building Director on using grant money to develop reading programs for students in need
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other instructional staff, including special education teachers, ESL specialists, and class teachers.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians about students’ progress and strategies to support reading at home.
- Provide parent workshops on how to support literacy at home
- Participate in school-wide literacy initiatives and committees.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of student assessments, progress, and interventions.
- Prepare reports for school administrators, district officials, and other stakeholders as required.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
