Controller Position
Southwest’s largest landscape rock mining company with 13 quarries throughout Arizona and Nevada is looking for a Controller to help grow the company. Rock Pros is looking for a person that can magnify our guiding principles of Accountability – Attitude – Relationships. Anyone applying for this position must be professional and proficient in the Controller responsibilities. Is able to manage a team of six, be savvy in the use of technology, able to multi-task and motivate and lead their team. The Controller plays a vital role in ensuring the financial health and operational efficiency of the company and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. Below are some areas of responsibility:
- Overseeing all accounting personnel and activities: We have a team of 3 people in accounts receivable responsible for invoicing, collections, pre-liens, and credit application. We have one person in accounts payable responsible for vendor bills and employee credit card management. We have one person as our inventory and production specialist that drones our quarry inventory each month and reconciles that to QuickBooks, enters daily production for each quarry, reconciles credit cards and other excel related reports. We have an HR manager that oversees all our HR and payroll needs.
- Financial Transactions: The controller is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. This involves documenting and reviewing procedures to ensure timely and accurate transactions each day, including:
- Invoicing for each sale of product
- Material purchases
- Equipment and machinery costs
- Labor expenses
- Permitting and licensing fees
- Royalty payments for each quarry
- Transportation costs
- Sales taxes and mining taxes
- Depreciation and amortization
- Month-End Close Process: At the end of each month, the controller is responsible for reconciling accounts, preparing financials, and ensuring all financial records are accurate and complete by the 10th of the following month.
- Financial Statements: The controller is responsible for preparing financial statements, including the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement. These statements provide a comprehensive overview of the company's financial performance and position.
- Financial Analysis: The controller analyzes financial data to identify trends, assess profitability, and make recommendations for improving financial performance. Cost per ton per quarry is a key indicator for our business and must be analyzed and understood. Inventory is another large, valued item that must be understood and analyzed on a monthly basis. Other analysis may involve cost control measures, pricing strategies, and budgeting.
- Internal Controls: The controller implements and maintains a system of internal controls to safeguard assets, ensure data integrity, and promote compliance with accounting standards.
- Management Reporting: The controller prepares reports for management that summarize financial performance, highlight key metrics, and provide insights to aid in decision-making.
- Tax Compliance: The controller ensures the company complies with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. Working with the CPA to complete tax returns timely.
- Staying informed of industry trends: The controller keeps up-to-date on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulatory changes that may impact the company's financial operations.
In addition to these core responsibilities, the Controller for the company may also be involved in:
- Budgeting and forecasting: The controller will assist in creating budgets and forecasting future financial performance.
- Project costing: The controller may be responsible for developing a system to track costs associated with specific mining projects and production profitability.
- Risk management: The controller helps identify and mitigate financial risks faced by the company.
- Overseeing external audits: The controller will be involved in facilitating communication and information flow during external audits.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
