RETIREMENT – CalPERS

- Unused sick leave may be converted to service credit for retirement purposes
Effective 1/1/13, those employees designated as new members, as determined by the Public Employee Pension Reform Act (PEPRA), receive the 2.7%@57 benefit formula with a three year average calculation at the time of retirement.
The City does not participate in the Social Security System, except for the mandatory 1.45% Medicare contribution.
All employees will contribute the equivalent of $85 per month to offset CalPERS Unfunded Accrued Liability costs. The employee contributions made pursuant to this Employee CalPERS Response Giveback Plan will be coordinated as a pre-tax contribution. Lastly, the employee contributions made pursuant to this Employee CalPERS Response Giveback Plan will be considered part of the employee contribution towards CalPERS retirement system costs.
MEDICAL INSURANCE
Cafeteria benefit allowance of $1,525 / month for use towards enrolling in any of the City offered health, dental, and vision plans. Any employee who wishes to cash out his/her cafeteria allowance receives 25% of the allowance as taxable income or deferred compensation.
LONG TERM DISABILITY & SHORT TERM DISABILITY
Benefits equal 60% of employee's base salary for qualified periods
LIFE INSURANCE
The City provides a life insurance policy of 1x the employees salary for a maximum of $200,000

DEFERRED COMPENSATION
Income may be deferred on a pre-tax basis through Nationwide 457 Plans based on IRS Regulations. The City will match up to $50/month for qualified employees.
TUITION REIMBURSEMENT & ANNUAL EDUCATION BONUS
Tuition reimbursement is available upon completion of probationary period. Additionally, completion of a degree entitles employee to an annual bonus:
