Summary
Responsible for performing a variety of technical tasks in fire suppression, rescue, emergency medical services, prevention, investigation, administrative and other special assignments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform fire suppression and other rescue operations.
- Search for and/or rescue trapped or injured persons.
- Assist in implementing continuous fire prevention activities.
- Respond to medical services calls.
- Administer first aid and emergency medical services to sick or injured persons to level authorized by Paramedic certification.
- Perform various administrative duties.
- May participate on department committees and attend staff meetings.
- Participate in routine housekeeping and preventative maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of examination, and not 36 years of age or older at the time of examination.
- High School Graduate or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
Preferred Qualifications
- Persons who have served in the United States of America military, received an Honorable Discharge, and pass the Examination may have five (5) points added to their test score if candidate submits a legible copy of a United States of America government issued form documenting at least 180 days of active duty military service with an Honorable Discharge (i.e. DD 214-MEMBER 4 FORM).
- Have completed 30 or more hours of college credit (with a C average or better).
- Currently certified as a licensed paramedic with the Texas Department of State Health Services.
- Currently certified or certifiable as a firefighter with the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to pass a physical examination, a comprehensive drug screening and have no more than 20/100 uncorrected vision
- Ability to perform in a physical agility test designed to test essential job functions
- Ability to give an oral interview answering questions regarding potential performance as a firefighter
- Ability to pass an extensive background check including driving record and polygraph examination
- Ability to work a shift schedule (24 hours on duty, followed by 48 hours off duty) or 40 hour work week with an 8-5 schedule
Licenses and Certifications
- Valid Class C Texas driver's license and obtain Class B after employment.
