Background: The Cashion Cultural Legacy(CCL) is committed to sustaining the preservation, presentation, and education of Mexican folk culture through dance. In honor and recognition of Dr. Susan V. Cashion and her many contributions to the dance world, the CCL pursues this mission by hosting two professional Mexican folk dance companies, offering accessible dance classes to the community, operating an artist exchange of dancers, directors, and choreographers between California and México, and managing a nascent publications project.
Position Available: The Cashion Cultural Legacy Board of Directors seeks a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as Executive Director to advance the mission and vision of the organization. With a dance company that is recognized as one of the first Mexican Folklórico Dance Organizations statewide, the CCL offers dance programming and experiences to dance company members, children and youth, partner organizations, and the general public.
Responsibilities: The Executive Director serves as the chief operating officer of the CCL, working closely with and reporting to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director directs and administers all programs, operations and policies in addition to supervising a staff of approximately 10.
Primary areas of responsibility include:
- Strategic Planning – implements the organization’s Strategic Plan and annual action plans in conjunction with the Board.
- Program Development and Management – develops, implements and supervises programs and services that are consistent with the organization’s mission and Strategic Plan and that meet the needs of participants and partners.
- Fund Development/Grant Oversight and Fiscal Management – together with the Board, develops and manages the fundraising and financial strategies of the organization; develops an annual budget for approval by the Board; oversees the management of all funds, consistent with the organization’s accounting system.
- Staff Leadership and Management – motivates and develops the professional team; facilitates hiring, supervises and evaluates staff; coordinates work with the Board’s committees, volunteers and partner organizations.
- Community Relations – develops effective working relationships within the community (both within the arts community and elsewhere) to ensure that Mexican Dance and its related arts are represented in the community-at-large and especially for the local community that the CCL serves.
- Advocacy – serves as the chief spokesperson for the CCL in the community; articulates and communicates the value of the arts in improving our quality of life, and promotes community support of Mexican Dance and the CCL.
- Conducts all business at the highest standard of integrity ensuring that all activities are legal and ethical.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Sample Tasks:
- Accounting – vendor or reimbursement payments, deposits, run payroll, purchasing, end-of-month accounting close with backup in Quickbooks database
- Finances – write and manage grants, create new fiscal year budgets for board approval, engage with Income Tax CPA, fill our Tax Organizer docs, review & file taxes, ensure acceptance by California Attorney General
- Communication – Assist in the development of marketing collateral, coordinate marketing campaign, respond to business calls and correspondence, facilitate weekly staff meetings, create/send newsletter, update CCL websites, monitor and engage in social media platforms
- Contracts – create and execute contracts and letters of agreements with clients, maintain record of commitments
- Production – set up and maintain online ticketing for CCL sponsored events
Experience/Qualifications: College graduate with at least 5 years management experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization, with experience in the arts or a related area;
Knowledge of the Bay Area arts community.
- Ability to positively motivate and develop staff, board, and volunteers and build consensus.
- Ability to work collaboratively with all sectors of the community, the Board of Directors and staff.

- Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, and analytical skills.
- Ability to build and maintain donor and prospect databases.
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with donors and supporters and develop strategies to encourage new donations and support.
- Ability to request donations or sponsorship from corporations, foundations and key individuals.
- A proven record as a successful fundraiser is a plus
- Bilingual and biliterate in English and Spanish is a plus.
- Master’s degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- Possession of a valid and appropriate California driver’s license; have a minimum required insurance coverage as mandated by the State of California for the operation of a vehicle.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
