Under general direction completes daily work orders related to meter services including installation, termination, lock-outs, repairs and resolving problems in the field.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Ability to turn on water service for new customers, turn off service for closed or delinquent accounts and record meter readings for final billings in assigned territory.
2. Ability to respond to emergency calls for assistance; investigate customer complaints related to pressure/flow, leaks or high consumption.
3. Ability to replace defective meters and control valves, leaking gaskets, damaged boxes and lids at the metering site.
4. Ability to assist on large meter crew performing maintenance on meters sized 3" to 10".
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
5. Ability to perform scheduled change-outs of aged or malfunctioning meters, 3/4" and 1" in size.
6. Ability to assist Meter Reading in facilitating safe access to metering sites by repairing reported defects and clearing impediments at the metering site.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Knowledge of Water Utilities operations; policies, procedures, ordinances.

Knowledge of specifications for all size meters and metering sites, metering functions and related terminology.

Skill in the maintenance of water meters and service connections.

Skill in quickly ascertaining problems with malfunctioning meters and determining quick resolutions.

Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment used in the trade.

Ability to understand and visualize combined metering scenarios.

Ability to respond on a scheduled on-call basis and to work extended periods of time under imposed emergency assignments.

Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 100 pounds.

Ability to perform arithmetic calculations accurately.

Ability to work in confined spaces under extreme weather conditions.

Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to PC, calculator, two-way radio, jack hammer, and porta-power winch.

Ability to perform a variety of physical skills including, but not limited to carrying, data entry, dragging, driving, holding, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, seeing, sitting, sorting, standing, squatting, stooping, twisting body, walking and writing.

Qualifying Education and Experience:
Completion of high school. One year of mechanical experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Successful completion of pre-employment testing which includes: Criminal Background, Drug and Alcohol Testing, Physical, and Motor Vehicle Records Check.
