Job Summary:
The Victory Club Athletic Director will understand and maintain the standards of Victory Brand etiquette and service in all interactions with residents, guests, and staff. You will oversee all fitness operations to ensure the delivery of professional, high quality, safe and innovative health and fitness programs and activities. While the main areas for programming and activities are in the Fitness Center, Movement Studio/Yoga Lawn, Pools, Pickleball & Tennis courts, fitness programming and activities might also include, for example, a trail hike, an educational class, a 2-mile themed walk/run, or an off-site activity.
Essential Duties and Functions:
· Develop and manage high quality exercise programming, testing and personal training.
· Create and oversee all group exercises, events, workshops.
· Responsible for the supervision and management of the fitness center, movement studio, lap pool, tennis, pickleball and bocce ball.
· Responsible for hiring, training, development, and orientation of all new Fitness employees.
· Enforce Fitness policies in a direct and effective manner. Must possess a combination of proven technical skills, management expertise, leadership, creativity, and excellent public relations, directing all efforts toward resident member satisfaction.
· Ensure retention & satisfaction of all residents.
· Develop and execute retention and revenue generating programs.
· Assist in the development and management of department operating budget
· Assist in the creation and implementation of marketing and promotions of programs and events.
· Manage inventory of athletic supplies and equipment; assist with selection of new fitness equipment and identifying equipment needing repaired and/or replaced.
· Must exhibit an approachable management style which includes supervising and managing employees, planning, delegating work/projects, measuring performance and developing annual individual/team goals of personnel.
· Ability to place high emphasis on the importance of the social and community element of the club. This includes participation in planning and execution of club events as needed.
· Develop programs and initiatives for new resident member orientations and awareness of activities.
· Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure optimum performance and consistent service to residents.
· Prepare weekly staff work schedules and group class schedules for residents.
· Conduct regular department meetings for the purposes of informing, training, and inspiring staff.
· Attending regular team meetings as directed by Clubhouse Manager and General Manager.
· Proactively schedule, supervise and conduct employee new-hire and on-going training programs.
· Maintain all safety and equipment standards.
· Remain current with all staff certifications and licenses.
· Offer ongoing presentations, seminars and demonstrations on fitness and wellness related topics.
· Handle emergency situations with urgency and discretion.
· Ensure the departmental sales budgets and forecasts are communicated to relevant personnel on the team and that business is in line with expected fiscal performance.
· May be required to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
· Flexible and long hours are sometimes required, depending on business demands – Generally, the work week includes every other Saturday, in season, which is October through April. Saturdays allow you to build weekend momentum and observe weekend volume and demand. We believe you’ll need to be here about 50% of Saturdays to accomplish this. In other months, you would be needed if there is a scheduled event on a Saturday or Holiday.
· Attending large club functions.
· Work a minimum of 42-45 hours per week.
Qualification Standards/Education and Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in exercise science or related field
· At least one nationally recognized fitness certification (ACE, NASM. ACSM, NSCA, CI)
· Three plus years of successful experience managing a fitness department in an upscale facility
· Strong understanding of exercise science
· Outstanding member service skills
· Strong leadership & staff development abilities
· Ability to develop & manage to budget
· Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is expected
· Ability to effectively delegate
· Strong team building skills including ability to lead, train, cooperate and contribute as part of a team
· Committed to learning, personal growth, and continual process improvement
· Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
· Must be change adaptive, flexible, and empathetic
· Demonstrate initiative to think, work, and make independent decisions based on sound judgment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites (Word, Excel and/or PowerPoint) and Outlook, as well as Mind Body software
· CPR certification
