The Lucy Daniels Center is a growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization where children’s mental health is the priority. Founded in 1989, Lucy Daniels Center is the largest nonprofit provider of social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health services exclusively for children in the Greater Triangle area. We serve more than 800 children and their families yearly and provide more than 40,000 hours of direct social, emotional, and mental health services to children from birth to age 11, the time of life when the most effective interventions are possible.
The multidisciplinary team, which includes recognized experts in mental health and education, works together with families to provide a uniquely comprehensive approach, delivering individualized treatment to each child.

Therapeutic classroom settings for preschool through Grade 5 children at the Lucy Daniels School.

Farley-Manning Family Guidance Service, providing onsite therapy for children and families.

SecurePath, a comprehensive in-home mental health service for children birth-5 years old. SecurePath is delivered in conjunction with Wake County SmartStart’s initiative to ensure that emotionally at-risk young children have early intervention services to better prepare them for success in school and life.

Lucy’s Link, providing observations and assessments for young children in the community.

Resources and Support, Lucy Daniels Center skilled staff provide parenting groups, social skills groups, observations and assessments, caregiver workshops and support groups, and teacher training across North Carolina in partnership with organizations like Telamon Corporation and the Psychoanalytic Center of the Carolinas.

JOB TITLE: Elementary School Teacher for Therapeutic Classroom
REPORTS TO: Director of Education
PROGRAM: Lucy Daniels School
STATUS: Full-Time (40hrs per week)
CLASSIFICATION: Exempt
THE POSITION SUMMARY
As a part of the Lucy Daniels School, the Teacher will work with students in the elementary school program, providing enriching activities and therapeutic support in a group (classroom) setting under the direct supervision of the Director of Education. This role will be responsible for collecting and recording data such as progress notes and interventions used.
The successful candidate is highly organized, and able to take initiative, working autonomously and with the team. The successful candidate can operate in a fast-paced environment while remaining good-natured, resourceful, and efficient. A high level of maturity, integrity, professionalism, discretion, sound judgment, tact, confidentiality, and self-care is crucial.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Work an 8 hour day, Monday through Friday.

Prepare and implement developmentally appropriate instruction/curriculum under the supervision of the Education Director and in collaboration with the teaching team.

Provide social and emotional support under the direct supervision of the Education Director and in collaboration with the teaching team.

Maintain developmental checklists on students.
-
Maintain social/emotional observation notes on children.
-
Prepare conference reports and report cards.
-
Participate in case conferences with teaching, clinical, and administrative staff.
-
Communicate regularly with parents about the school program and child’s development.
-
Attend teaching staff meetings.
-
Attend whole-staff meetings.
-
Participate in on-site seminars.
-
Continue professional development as required by licensing agencies and the Center.

Participate in Center activities as requested.
-
Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS, AND ATTRIBUTES
The Teacher must demonstrate a passion for and willingness to support The Lucy Daniels Center’s mission, vision, values, and work. The ideal candidate will possess sufficient experience to execute the responsibilities of the position and demonstrate the following:

Bachelor’s degree required, BS or BA in early school education or special education preferred.

Classroom experience in a school, nonprofit, or other relevant field preferred.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and quickly move and/or provide restraint.

Strong reading, writing, and administrative skills; ability to communicate clearly in oral written and numeric forms.

Strong organization skills, accuracy, and ability to successfully manage projects.

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS
This position will work closely with our Lucy Daniels School Teachers. This position reports directly to the Director of Education and will also interact routinely with the other staff members at LDC.
