St. Bernard Hospital is seeking Pharmacy Technicians that will provide superior customer/patient service. This position will compound and dispense medical prescriptions. Expected to perform some clerical duties relating to the department. The Pharmacy Technician receives and stores incoming supplies; verifies stock, and enters data into the computer to maintain inventory records.
Highlight of Responsibilities
- Procure and distribute medication orders per physician requests or prearranged work assignments according to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Consistently demonstrate knowledge and skills of physical, psychological, educational, and safety criteria related to patient medication cassettes.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies and procedures.
- Fill physician orders and medication carts. Stock requests accurately.
- Replenish medication in emergency crash carts or floor stock areas accurately.
- If applicable and trained in IV room operations, prepare sterile products (Hyperals, Large Volume IV, and chemotherapy admixtures) accurately.
- Deliver medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately per schedule.
- Assist in ordering, receiving, unpacking, and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.
- Rotate stocks to ensure that they are used before expiration. Remove and replace outdated medications.
- Pre-pack bulk medications into unit-dose packages.
- Pick up orders and medications returned from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.
- Enter medication orders into the pharmacy computer system accurately. Generate pick lists, catch-ups for admissions, discharges, and transferred patients lists and other labels as required.
- Organize and prioritize work assignment. Keep pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well organized. Keep equipment clean.
- Answer incoming telephone calls and respond to requests at the in-window promptly, if qualified or authorized to do so.
- Maintain logs, records, and other required documentation accurately. File documentation in appropriate locations.
- Complete and document all assigned medication areas for monthly inspections.
- Work collaboratively with all department personnel by maintaining an atmosphere of congeniality and cooperation.
- Perform all clerical functions within the framework or department procedures.
- Implement treatment guidelines, protocols, formulary changes, and critical pathways as approved by P&T and other committees.
- Contribute to quality and effective operations of the Pharmacy Department.
- Maintain license and competency for position.
- Attend Pharmacy staff meetings.
- Attend training sessions, seminars, and workshops appropriate for the acquisition of the necessary skills and information to enhance skills.
- Act in a consistently professional manner while conducting all duties and responsibilities.
- Comply with all requirements related to risk management, safety, security, fire, and infection control.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of sterile compounding vital.
- Pharmacist Technician license in the state of Illinois.
- One to two years of retail pharmacy experience.
- A customer service oriented personality and strong knowledge of insurance/third party transactions, a plus!
- Ability to perform sterile compounding. Preferred.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $19.50 - $30.80 per hour
