SUMMARY
The Accountant assists in the oversight of the daily business operations of the college which includes accounts receivable, accounts payable and cashiering; monitoring expenditures and preparing required reports for all federal, state and private grant activity; maintenance of financial records in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles and preparation of financial and administrative reports and resolution of accounting problems and questions. The Accountant is responsible for the monitoring of all federal, state and private grant expenditures for compliance.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Assists in providing oversight of the daily business and financial operations of the college.
- Works with grant directors to establish budgets, reconciles expenditures, requests cash funds, and prepares reports to state and federal agencies
- Reports to granting authority and internal users, act as a resource in development of grant budgets and conducts cash requests/draws. Establishes and maintains the process and reporting to the federal government for recipients of Title IV funds (Pell, federal subsidized and non-subsidized loans, Parent Plus Loans)
- Maintains required records and prepares required reports for all federal, state and private grants. Reviews and makes recommendations on grant financial policies and procedures; assists in the interpretation of policy related issues
- Identifies potential financial, accounting, or budgeting problems and recommends solutions
- Assists with the year-end closing reconciliation and prepares necessary reports for audit including accrual entries and preparation of the financial statements
- Reviews and monitors all federal, state and private grant expenditures for compliance with associated funding source regulations
- Assists in training on business office procedures and daily business activities
- Delivers quality customer services to both internal and external constituents in a professional helpful and courteous manner
- Participates actively in continuous improvement efforts to provide efficient and quality services
- Establishes effective and timely communications to assure outcomes
- Works closely and cooperatively with other campus departments or related agencies on programmatic, financial, and compliance matters
- Maintains and prepares records, files, reports, and contracts; updates information according to policy and regulations
- Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment
- Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development
- Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed
- Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College
- Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships
- Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies
- Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities
- Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor degree in accounting or related field AND two years of directly related work experience, OR
- Associate degree in related field AND four years of directly related work experience; OR
- An equitable combination of six years of higher education courses AND/OR directly related work experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Work experience in business operations and grant accounting at a higher education or public environment
- Work experience in fund accounting
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license

- This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
