General Description:
The Pharmacy Manager oversees all daily clinical and operational activities of the Pharmacy Department. This includes planning, managing, and evaluating tasks and functions of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians, including all aspects of patient care from a clinical perspective and from an ongoing organizational perspective. The Pharmacy Manager will assist the Director of Pharmacy with the ongoing maintenance of all documentation and records required by Joint Commission, Texas State Board of Pharmacy and other licensing and accrediting bodies and will serve as an active member of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and other hospital committees as deemed necessary. The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for the provision of safe, effective, appropriate, and cost-efficient medication therapy through formulary management. This individual will promote clinically rational drug therapy and sound pharmaceutical care through the development of new (or expansion of existing) pharmacy practice programs, drug therapy policies, procedures, and other programs.
Additionally, the Pharmacy Manager will serve as the Residency Program Director (RPD) for the pharmacy’s PGY-1 Residency. As the RPD, the Manager is responsible for the continued development, oversight, and maintenance of the pharmacy residency program. The RPD will have oversight of the program including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training of preceptors and residents.
Responsibilities:

Designing, managing, measuring, and improving the medication management system

Ensuring quality outcomes through the coordination of performance-improvement activities

Leading drug-utilization efforts for the system

Will work closely with the informatics teams as on intermittent projects or continual optimization related to medication utilization.

Managing the pharmaceutical supply chain, to assure pharmacy has the necessary medications

Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements (includes residency)

Assist in the development and maintenance of a formulary approved by the medical staff. Sustains the DCH formulary, minimizing non-formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic interchanges, and promotes rational drug therapy selection

Coordinates and works with P&T Chair on Pharmacy and Therapeutic meeting agenda, reports, and when necessary minutes.

Attend a variety of committee meetings as needed

Serves as a preceptor for Pharmacy Residents and College of Pharmacy students

Effectively administers performance evaluations for assigned pharmacists including: developmental feedback, goal setting, competency assessment, and progressive discipline.
Qualifications:

Doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor’s degree (BPharm) from an accredited college of pharmacy

Texas Pharmacist license

Texas Preceptor license preferred

Completed an ASHP-accredited PGY1 residency and a minimum of three years of relevant pharmacy practice

Pediatric experience strongly preferred
