Foodland Super Market, Hawaii's largest locally owned grocery retailer is hiring Managers for The R. Field Wine Co. Dept.
The R. Field Wine Co. Dept. Manager is a full-time, salaried position, and is responsible for the overall operation of the R. Field specialty wine and food department in the store, ensuring all employees within the department provide fast, efficient, and friendly service within a total quality experience for both customers and employees. Dept. manager is expected to train newly appointed members of the team in customer service, product knowledge and education, and cash handling skills, while encouraging safe working practices and adherence to our Guiding Principles and House Rules.
This position directly supervises R. Field Wine Co. employees and reports to the Store Director, Dept. Supervisor, Dept. Director and District Manager.
Store Operations:
- Maintains a clean, organized, and stocked department managing the distribution of product shipments.
- Performs all POS duties, including opening and closing procedures, and is accountable for all cash-handling policies and department funds while running a shift.
- Establishes and maintains effective and positive communication amongst all department members, as well as other store employees and those at the Corporate Headquarters.
- Establishes and maintains a professional working rapport with all vendors servicing the department.
- Responsible for all store products, including inventory, ordering, merchandising, and display.
- Works in conjunction with all department food, wine, and cigar specialists, assisting, sharing and overlapping in department tasks, policies, and procedures.
- Assists the operational management in planning and executing sales promotions effectively and efficiently.
- Provides guidance and actively sets an example for department employees, ensuring that all standard operating procedures are maintained and followed.
- Promotes and practices safe working habits, reporting potential safety hazards, operating inconsistencies and employee incidents to Store Management. Reports/documents employee accidents in the interest of maintaining a safe working environment.
Service:
- Is the role model for outstanding service and maintains ownership of the service initiative at all times.
- Proactive in solving customer problems and satisfying customers in various situations, while soliciting customer feedback to understand customer needs and needs of local community.
- Strives to develop a working rapport with customers by learning their names, favorite wine and food items, and their specialty needs, while encouraging all department members to follow suit.
- Consistently monitors, coaches, and encourages employees to meet and exceed the department's and the Company's service standards.
Product:
- Follows all company and statewide procedures regarding the safe handling of all food and beverage items.
- Ensures that all department employees are educated on products and services, by developing an understanding of the various specialty products we carry, where they come from, and how best to use them in cooking and dining.
- Tastes products on a consistent basis for quality assurance.
Training & Development:
- Demonstrates the ability to lead, communicate, and champion Foodland's Guiding Principles, House Rules, and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Provides coaching and training to all department members on performance expectations.
- Consistently monitors all department employees' performance and reports any deficiencies to specific employees and General Manager.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum high school diploma or equivalent combination of skills/experience
- minimum of one year experience in a supervisory or management role
- minimum of one year customer service experience
- must have experience and working knowledge of wines and gourmet foods/products
- Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills required.
- Must be able to work all shifts, including opening and closing, weekends, evenings, and special events as needed.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task.
- Must be able to understand store operation reports.
- This position requires frequent standing, up to eight hours a day.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and bend and twist at the waist.
- Frequently required to use hand and finger motions, handle and feel objects and utensils, and reach with hands and arms.
- Regularly required to handle food and wine, and work with kitchen utensils, including knives and a meat slicing machine.
- TB clearance required
- Must comply with all company policies and requirements
