Johns Dental Laboratories is seeking Removable Dental Technicians. Since 1939, the mission of Johns Dental Laboratories has been to provide the highest level of quality in all of our dental prosthetics and appliances. Experience is preferred.
Job purpose:
To fabricate dental prosthetic appliances from customers prescriptions and to repair such devices per customers orders.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Read prescription forms and specifications from customers
- Examine dental models or impressions from customers to determine the design of the appliance to be fabricated
- Plan the appropriate setup and operation of various laboratory tools and ensure proper quantities of raw material inventory is on hand for fabrication of appliances
- Constructs prostheses by following the dentist's prescription (making plaster models of the mouth and teeth from impressions of the patient's mouth taken by the dentist; building-up wax replicas of part or all of the mouth and/or teeth on the model; encasing the wax in a mold material and melting away the wax; replacing the wax with plastic, metal, or ceramic materials to make the replacement appliance; polishing and finishing the appliance prior to its being placed in the patient's mouth by the dentist)
- Fabricate, alter or repair the specified appliance according to customer’s instructions on the prescription form (Fabrication processes vary based on the appliance)
- Preparing (box and pour impression material, trim models, set and seal bites and articulate)
- Setting Up (select and set up teeth)
- Waxing (wax dentures for try-in and/or finish)
- Processing (invest and boil-out, pack)
- Finishing (finish and contour dentures, polish dentures)
- Test appliance for conformance to specifications and accuracy of occlusion, using articulators and micrometers
- Place appliance on apparatus that mimics bite and movement of patient’s jaw to evaluate functionality of appliance
- May involve contact with customer to clarify instructions not clearly identified on the prescription form or if problems arise in the fabrication process
- Maintain a neat and clean workspace to prevent workplace damage and minimize potential for injury
- Documents actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records
Experience is preferred.
Qualifications:
- Minimum one year fabricating dental prosthetic appliances
- Requires manual dexterity, strong attention to detail and good spatial and visual perception
- Ability to lift up to ten pounds and occasionally heavier
- Requires flexibility and adaptability to meet laboratory demands
- Ability to communicate with customers regarding technical specifications and appliance designs
- Willingness to follow safety rules when operating hand tools
- Ability to work with limited supervision
Preferred Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Certified Dental Technician (CDT) certification preferred but not required
- Three years or longer in a dental laboratory
Working conditions:
Work will be done in a laboratory environment which may contain elements of airborne particles, fumes and gasses, high density noise producing machinery and experience elevated temperatures resulting from equipment.
Physical requirements:
Most work is done while sitting although some standing, walking, bending and flexing of arms, wrists, hands and fingers, grasping, and turning head and torso may be required.
