Job Description:
As the AVP of General Liability Claims, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing the general liability claims department. You will be responsible for TPA Oversight, from initial reporting to final settlement, ensuring the efficient and effective handling of claims while maintaining the highest standards of customer service and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Strategic Planning:
- Provide strategic direction and leadership to the general liability claims department.
- Develop and implement short-term and long-term goals, objectives, and strategies to optimize claims operations and performance.
- Foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Report status on loss development to senior management, underwriting, and reinsurers
Claims Management:
- TPA oversight with responsibility for end-to-end management of general liability claims, including investigation, evaluation, negotiation, and settlement.
- Ensure timely and accurate claim adjudication in accordance with company policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
- Monitor claim trends, identify emerging issues, and develop proactive strategies to mitigate risks and minimize losses.
- Review and approve settlements within authorized limits, ensuring fair and equitable resolution of claims.
- Attend mediations, settlement conferences and trials
Team Development and Training:
- Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of claims professionals.
- Provide ongoing training, coaching, and feedback to enhance the skills, knowledge, and performance of team members.
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish individual development plans to support career growth and succession planning.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including underwriting, legal, risk management, and finance departments, to streamline processes, improve communication, and optimize claim outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, such as insureds, brokers, attorneys, and third-party administrators, to facilitate efficient claims resolution.
Compliance and Quality Assurance:
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and best practices in claims management.
- Conduct regular audits and quality assessments to evaluate the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of claims handling processes and decisions.
- Implement corrective actions and process improvements as needed to address deficiencies and enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, insurance, risk management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in general liability claims management, with demonstrated expertise in handling complex and high-exposure claims.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower teams to achieve excellence.
- Exceptional analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills, with a proven track record of achieving favorable claim outcomes.
- Thorough understanding of insurance principles, coverage analysis, liability assessment, and legal principles related to general liability claims.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders and resolve conflicts.
- Proficiency in claims management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
