SUMMARY
Research, selection and acquisition of new desktop hardware/software. Responsible for setup, configuration and support of departmental IT related assets. Maintain operating system standards of non-server devices including upgrades, patches, and troubleshooting procedures. Assists in maintaining select server hardware, software and operating systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Develop replacement plans for aging/obsolete desktop hardware and software. Study changes in desktop/component design in order to maximize the life expectancy of new purchases. Research available options, analyze/compare best offerings and purchase items after approval.
Install\troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance on hardware including desktop computers, laptops, thin clients, handheld devices, scanners and printers. Sanitize old PC’s to prepare them for proper disposal in compliance with county policy.
Installing, maintaining and troubleshooting various department specific Windows & DOS applications. Also supporting Windows client software such as HOD, IMS21, eWisSacWis, TIME system, and others. Creates PowerShell and Batch scripts to automate as many processes as possible to efficiently keep software up to date on a consistent basis.
Maintain Windows, Linux, IOS, and Android Operating Systems (OS) on all desktop computers, laptops, thin clients, handheld devices and cellular phones. Responsible for ensuring operating systems have up to date, critical and necessary patches installed on a regular basis using automated patch management tools. Ensures user profiles are maintained and setup using a consistent method for all users.
Responsible for administration of county owned or managed cellular phones using Mobile Device Management (MDM) software. Administration of Public Safety Netmotion VPN. Installation (wiring/mounting) and administration of CradlePoint cellular devices in squad cars. Assist in selecting hardware for and configuration of point to point wireless connections.
Also required to correctly respond to alerts and log entries, ensuring the correct policies are being applied to the correct users using group policies and memberships.
Primary contact for support of the Election systems, SVRS, E911, Video Conferencing and board voting software.
Provide Support Specialist necessary information to permit effective management of county computer hardware and software inventories.
If necessary, sets up and supports projectors and other devices loaned out to departments from the TS Department.
Efficiently and accurately respond to helpdesk tickets based on priority set by Support Specialist and TS Director.
Advises other county employees as to the best methods\practices, or computer program(s) to use in solving their problems, and advise as to the most time and cost effective solution.
Assists TS Department\team in maintaining security of county computer systems.
Assists TS Department\team in setting department priorities to ensure achievement of both long and short-range county goals.
Assists with updating computer systems and maintaining software programs.
Produces data processing documentation which includes documenting programs according to installation standards.
Assists in system research, analysis and design, programming and coordinating computer operations and data entry.
Performs routine maintenance of PC’s and related equipment as needed.
Create and maintain documentation in regards to the installation and setup of applications.
Confers with TS Director, Project Managers and Project Team members on various projects assigned.
Assists in the development of department budget and works within it.
Researches and recommends purchase of equipment to control dust, temperature, and humidity in area of system installation.
Trains users on new or modified equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; and six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Must have the ability to definitively troubleshoot and solve problems end users are having with their computer systems in order to ensure the problem does not spread and user safety is not jeopardized.
Must possess comprehensive knowledge of the Internet, Windows, client access methods, networking, and other various software. Must be able to provide support for applications related to word processing, spreadsheets, graphics and databases.
Must be able to type approximately 50 words per minute.
