The Phelps School is seeking an innovative, energetic Head Soccer Coach for the 2024-2025 school year. The position offers a tremendous opportunity to continue building an elite soccer program at an independent boarding and day school. The Head Soccer Coach will be engaged across the whole community, serving a vital role in the classroom, admissions office, or in an administrative position, depending on the candidate's experience and interest. The Head Soccer Coach will be responsible for recruiting prospective student-athletes, creating a competitive schedule, practice planning, game management and college placement.
Responsibilities
- Continue to build a preeminent year-round soccer program that exemplifies the mission of The Phelps School
- Recruit high caliber players of character both domestically and internationally
- Evaluate athlete performance and provide real-time suitable feedback, balancing
criticism with positivity and motivation
- Oversee the soccer program, including a year-round training program with an emphasis on technical skills, tactical understanding, physical conditioning, and mental preparation
- Model inclusion when welcoming new athletes, despite skill level or experience
- Act as a role model and leader at all times, gaining the respect and trust of the student-athletes, parents, and coaching colleagues
- Create a highly competitive schedule, plan practices and manage all games
- Solicit, hire, supervise, and mentor assistant coaches in a manner commensurate with athletic department policy and school mission
- Evaluate, break down, and review film
- Monitor and run sport-specific social media and participate in Athletic Department social media campaigns
- Actively participate in the admissions process
- Assist with college placement of student-athletes
Required Qualifications
- Recruiting experience
- Ideal coaching candidates should have experience coaching at the high school, club,
and/or college level
- Coaching experience with advanced knowledge and understanding of technical and strategic aspects of the game of soccer
- Ability to communicate effectively with athletes, coaching staff, and parents
- Ability to teach, lead, motivate student-athletes
- Proven organizational and management skills
- Desire and ability to cultivate strategic relationships with area athletic organizations
- Desire and ability to team with our Admissions staff to communicate with prospective
families
