Summary
Responsible for coordinating and assigning daily landscape maintenance and greenhouse work duties for City owned facilities, medians and right-of-ways, and irrigation systems. Also responsible for maintaining communication with supervisors and workers to ensure the completion and quality of assigned duties.
Salary: $16.50 - $20.50/hour, depending on qualifications and experience
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain all landscape areas, public facilities, and greenhouse for the PRCAD department.
Communication with supervisors to determine which current project needs attention for that day.
Supervise and assist crewmembers in their daily work duties. Coordinate and assign daily work duties to staff as needed or in the absence of supervisor.
Verify high quality work is completed for every task and provide constructive feedback when changes or enhancements need to be made.
Operate tractors, weed eaters and trimmer to assist in landscape maintenance.
Assist with trimming and sculpting trees by using chain saws, pole saws, brush chippers and stump grinders.
Apply pesticides and herbicides as needed.
Provide input regarding hiring and disciplinary actions.
Complete written reports as required by management.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
3 years of related landscape experience
Up to 1 year in a leadership role
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
3-5 years of experience in coordinating the efforts of landscape crews
1 year experience in a leadership role
State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of landscape maintenance
Comprehensive knowledge of safety methods and procedures used in equipment operation
Basic computer skills
Skill operating chain saws, pole saws, brush chippers and stump grinders, weed eaters, trimmer
Skill in operating and calibrating spray equipment
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to maintain professional relationships with subordinates, customers and management
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver's License or ability to acquire within 6 months of hire
Texas Department of Agriculture Pest Control Board License or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
The incumbent works with frequent exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards. Majority of work performed outside or with exposure to risk. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold, rain, humidity, insects, noxious odors, fumes, and physical stress from exertion and lifting. Exposed to physical exertion such as bending, lifting, stooping, reaching, pulling, and pushing. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
