Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position
The Manufacturing Engineering Manager position oversees the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost (Productivity), and Inventory (SQDCI). The Manufacturing Engineering Manager ensures the engineering team and other manufacturing departments work together cohesively and leads and directs the work of assigned manufacturing engineers and project engineers.

- Apply DMAIC and Lean/6SIGMA tools to identify defects/waste in the manufacturing process and eliminate root cause(s).
- Manage staff to consistently meet and exceed corporate goals by providing training, development and coaching to drive peak performance with direct reports.
- Support critical role of Voice of Manufacturing in our New Product Introduction Stage Gate Process. Support all current and new product introductions.
- Actively engage with all of MCE to support our Lean Transformation, deploying Lean Tools to improve employee safety, processes and decrease cost. Problem solve gaps and redesign. Implement mistake-proofing concepts to prevent product defects.
- Work closely with research and development, quality assurance and maintenance personnel to prevent problems with products, machines, and tooling/fixtures.
- Experiment with and analyze different materials, manufacturing processes, design tolerances and other factors in the developmental process.
- Oversee the fabrication of models and perform tests to determine compliance to specification. Problem solve gaps and redesign. Implement mistake-proofing concepts to prevent product defects.
- Analyze and design lean manufacturing cells using effective systems and simulation tools to optimize use of space, equipment, material, and personnel.
- Ensure vendors/subcontractors are manufacturing products according to product specifications. Ensure that all manufacturing product specifications are developed, and testing procedures are in place before utilizing vendors/subcontractors. Provide input and support during the selection process of new vendors.
- Communicate with and provide technical expertise to; suppliers, customers, Quality, Manufacturing, Purchasing, and Sales.
- Develop and manage your team’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). On a monthly basis, investigate and provide root cause analysis when KPIs are not met. Implement approved corrective actions.
- Mentor the team in the development, execution, and improvement of technical processes including:
- Customer and in-house print review
- Technical design reviews
- DFMEA
- Root cause analysis
- Assists with special projects and perform other related duties as assigned. Completes other tasks as assigned or required.
Salary Range - $150,000-$165,000
Qualifications
Education, Experience & Certifications
- BS degree with engineering emphasis required, MS degree in engineering (preferred).
- 8+ years of experience working directly with manufacturing processes (build to print and new product development) and successfully leading a Manufacturing Engineering function within a low volume, high mix manufacturing environment.
- 5+ years of experience leading teams of engineers in a continuous improvement environment.
- 2+ years of experience with CNC, Assembly and/or Grinding processes.
- Black/Green Belt or Lean Certification a plus.
- Knowledge of magnetic materials and applications in a high mix/low volume manufacturing environment is a plus.
