The Machinist will work in our air-conditioned Machine Shop and is responsible for setup, program, adjust and operate Okuma CNC Lathe and completing small runs of machined parts to print and specification. Performs typical operations such as turning, facing, boring, chamfering, turning tapers, drilling, grooving, reaming on components used for the manufacture of precision electromechanical components. Some manual Mill (Bridgeport) operation, as required.
Scope of Responsibilities:
- Efficiently setup, program, adjust and operate multiple machines within department.
- Machining small runs of very tight tolerance, small precision parts.
- Inspect own work for correct dimensions as specified in drawings, process specifications and work instructions are maintained. Complete required documentation. Will be required to inspect the work of other operators.
- Must understand GD&T and be capable of correctly measuring first piece parts.
- Improvises and adapts standard tooling.
- Training as needed.
- Able to perform general preventative maintenance of machines, including drain and change wash and coolant tanks.
- Ensures compliance with the company quality system to maintain high standards of quality, reliability, and safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Experience\Education:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience programming CNC Lathe required.
- Okuma CNC Lathe programming experience is a plus, and ability to machine using manual lathes and manual mills preferred.
- Experience machining small runs of very tight tolerance, small precision parts (0.0005” typical) preferred.
- Experience machining maraging steels (13-8, 17-4) preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience and demonstrated proficiency of machine set up and operating precision grinding machines in an AS9100 and ISO9000 controlled environment preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret operation sheets, routers, and blueprints.
- Fluent in English.
- Maintain a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
Physical Requirements
- Requires alertness and attentiveness as work is very meticulous.
- Stand, lift, pull, push, grasp, repetitive motions. Stand for long periods of time. This is working onsite in an Industrial Manufacturing facility.
- Moderate physical demand required to insert tooling, set up work centers, inspect work pieces and make machine adjustments, which is equivalent to continuously lifting or moving light weight material.
- Required lifting weight daily: 35 lbs.
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
General Requirements
- Legal authorization to work in the US is required.
- This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. CDA will require proof of status prior to employment.
- Work hours: M-F 7:30 – 4:00pm, some overtime and Saturdays, as needed.
