PURPOSE
The primary responsibility of this role is to ensure that Plant facilities are in excellent condition, addressing fabrication for any non-classified and classified spaces in Production and Packaging areas while complying with the local building codes, cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices), and the Company’s safety, environmental and operating policies and procedures. Patching/painting walls and surfaces is also a component to this position.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fabricate, remodel, and repair building structures and frameworks using materials made from wood, plywood, wallboard and other materials;
- Install plastic panels and pieces, drywall, windows, and molding, build footings, rafters, and doorways, and lay floors. Install/mount wall fixtures, cabinets, and molding as required to ensure the best results in order to meet customers’ specifications;
- Prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required for fabrication;
- Perform painting tasks including but not limited to: initial preparation, priming, sanding, and installing of backing, prior to painting;
- Communicate schedule and activity impact to customers, and others as required;
- Keep accurate accounting of time and materials expended on jobs;
- Ensure proper use and care of tools, equipment, and facilities;
- Maintain workshop and other work areas in a safe and efficient condition;
- Focus is internal and external;
- Work with cross-functional areas including: engineering department, production operation, scheduling and planning, Quality assurance, maintenance operations, other site personnel, and off-site vendors/contractors.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma, or GED PLUS a minimum of three (3) years of commercial/industrial carpentry experience;
- General Carpentry and fabrication knowledge;
- Basic hand and machine tools knowledge which includes a variety of machinery from simple to complex nature for fabrication uses (Including a table saw, band saw, circular saw, jointer, planer sander, trowel, transit and level, brush, lathe, hand tools such as saw, hammer, level, nail, gun, tape, square, chalk line, pliers, putty knife, various paint equipment, etc.);
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English in order to understand written and verbal instructions, SOPs, etc.;
- Acceptable attendance and performance;
- The ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required (including 10-hour shifts as needed and on-call);
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
- Work independently and self-directed with minimal supervision;
- Good math skills for calculating surfaces and equipment requirements and ability to read/interpret blueprints and diagrams;
- Detail-oriented with the ability to demonstrate good recordkeeping practices;
- Ability to multitask, troubleshoot, and use analytical judgment to plan and perform diversified work, making decisions within prescribed limitations;
- General knowledge of shop tools and safe operation;
- Ability to operate or learn to operate a forklift, scissor-lift, JLG;
- Computer skills required. Including knowledge of: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, SAP;
- Ability to work safely in an environment containing hazardous chemicals, high and low-temperature liquids, high pressure liquids and gases, steam, and moving machinery.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to- 350 lbs. with assistance;
- Must be able to withstand frequent repetitive movement, stooping, crouching, kneeling, climbing (ladders), and sitting;
Must be able to climb up to 30 feet and/or- 3 stories;
- Must be able to wear protective clothing (PPE) as required;
- Must be able to work at heights, around moving machinery, and with exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and drafts;
- Must be able to identify color-coded labels;
- Must be able to pass an eye exam – includes testing for: near vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
- Must meet Occupational Demands/Physical Requirement checklist.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of one (1) year of painting experience; industrial / pharmaceutical and/or clean manufacturing environment;
- Proficient knowledge of other trades (Painting, Plumbing, Electrical, etc.);
- Prior SAP experience.
Employees can expect to be paid a Union hourly wage of $53.82 at a CBYSR level. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
