Summary:
The teacher is responsible for implementing daily classroom curriculum and ensuring the developmental growth and safety of all children in the classroom. The lead teacher is responsible for modeling appropriate social and emotional skills in his/her interactions with all children, staff, and families in the childcare center.
Education and Experience Requirements:
This position requires an A.A. in Early Childhood Education(NAEYC) or at minimum 12 E.C.E college units AND concurrent enrollment in at least 3 applicable units per semester until an A.A. is achieved OR a valid Teacher permit or higher from the California Commission for Teacher Credentialing. This position requires at least 6 months of experience working as a teacher or teacher’s aide/assistant in a preschool classroom. Must possess valid CPR certification, including infant CPR/first aid. Any employee who fails to satisfy these requirements are subject to disciplinary action, including termination.
Duties and Responsibilities:
-Must have adequate knowledge in implementing developmentally appropriate practices for a classroom of up to 20 children.
-Work in collaboration with a co-lead teacher or teacher aide.
-Able to work closely with other teachers in the childcare center.
-Plan and prepare daily and monthly curriculum and submit plans to administration upon request.
-Oversee the general classroom environment including but not limited to safety, keeping supplies and equipment clean and in working order, classroom decorations, and ensuring that toys and activities are age appropriate.
-Assist children with all personal care activities such as toileting, feeding, and dressing in relation to their age and stage of development.
-Ability to assess children bi-annually and keep running records/observations.
-Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility is essential.
-Must have excellent interpersonal and positive communication skills with children, fellow staff, and families.
-Able to follow all state licensing and NAEYC accreditation regulations.
-Ability to attend professional development workshops and classes both in-person and/or online. -Follow all program policies and procedures, including employee codes of conduct.
-Maintain professionalism in all interactions with fellow employees, administration, and families.
-Treat all children in the childcare center with respect and dignity and adjust activities/practices to each child’s individual needs.
-Able to attend monthly staff meetings either in person or via Zoom.
Physical Requirements:
While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to
Bend, crouch down, squat to eye level with children, lift at least 35 pounds, quickly move across a classroom or playground to reach children, see and hear well, stand for long periods of time, and perform light housekeeping duties such as sweeping, wiping tables, and doing dishes.
Required Skills:
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. (Bilingual a plus) Proficient in using Microsoft Word and/or Google Docs for written assessments. Able to use a tablet/smart phone to access Class Dojo app and post content.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
