Ripley Renovations is a residential remodeling company focusing on high-end projects centered around East Dallas’ historic districts and the Park Cities. We're fortunate to work on some really special properties, some of which are on the National Historic Register or have been designed and built by some of Dallas' leading architects or city founders. Our in-house team does most of our own carpentry work for small to midsize projects – everything from framing and minor foundation repairs to custom cabinetry and trim, and we serve as the general contractor on all projects by supervising all trades.
We are currently looking for an experienced carpenter to join our team as an "on-the-tools" team lead/carpentry supervisor with a keen eye for craftmanship in all stages of a build. If you understand how important it is to get the "rough" work right so you can excel at the fine finish parts of the job, you might be a great fit! At this time we are only considering applicants who have at least 10 years of hands-on carpentry experience in residential remodeling and woodworking - this is not an entry- or mid-level position. The perk of this requirement: You'll get to focus on what you do best, as we have other members of our team who handle drywall, tile, and nearly all other general construction tasks.
Job type: Full-time employee (not 1099)
Pay rates: $30 - $35/hour, depending on experience. For applicants with a high level of skill but little leadership experience, we would start at the lower end of the range. If you already have experience leading a team and/or managing projects, the higher end of the range would apply.
Promotion track: This position would be eligible to advance to Carpentry Project Manager at $75k with full benefits including up to three weeks vacation after one year of employment.
Job requirements:
· Availability for all working hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
· Capable of lifting at least 50 lbs on a regular basis in all seasons and temperatures
· Good manual dexterity; may be standing, bending, kneeling, or sitting for long periods - including on ladders or scaffolding
· Provide, maintain, and demonstrate mastery of all tools which would normally be used for any residential carpentry job (we will provide large equipment such as table or miter saws for jobsite use)
· A valid Texas drivers’ license and reliable transportation; must be able to transport smaller hand and power tools along with small materials in your vehicle
· Fluency in English (bilingual appreciated but not required)
· Compliance with all safety policies and procedures
· 10 years verifiable carpentry experience in residential settings, minimum; small consideration may be given for related trades (electrical, plumbing, cabinet shop, etc.), but no more than two years
Skills/Qualifications:
· Ability to perform a wide range of carpentry tasks at the top of the industry standard - including framing, doors/windows, siding and exterior trim, decks, stairs/railings, interior trim, and some cabinetry installation
· Deep understanding of how your team's carpentry tasks relate to other building trades (such as electrical, plumbing, drywall, etc.)
- Knowledgeable about building science, structural requirements, and proper material selection
· Strong ability to problem-solve both independently and with other team members
· Effective communication with co-workers and supervisors to ensure projects stay on schedule and within budget
· A commitment to improving the quality of any team you're on, including training less experienced workers and sharing tips/best practices for shared professional development
