Position Summary:
This role is responsible for providing effective and safe individual, partner, and small group training sessions. Training sessions should be customized programs designed to train members based on their needs and abilities. Trainers will be responsible for conducting fitness testing and assessments, advising participants of their results, and delivering programs to get the desired results. This role is also responsible for educating clients (members and nonmembers) about the fundamentals of strength and cardiovascular training as well as the proper and safe use of applicable equipment
Primary Duties:
- Lead individual, partner, and small group training sessions to members and guests of various physical abilities.
- Train within proper scope of work.
- Understand contraindicated exercises to provide a safe training environment for all individuals.
- Ability to assess an individual’s fitness level, review health history, and consider fitness goals when designing training programs.
- Maintain required certifications in good standing and complete any required continuing education.
- Ability to be flexible and accommodating to meet Wellness Center hours and member needs.
- Maintains a schedule and shows up on time and prepared for all training sessions.
- Participates in the maintenance and cleaning of all equipment on the fitness floor in coordination with other Trainers, Wellness Coaches and the Fitness Manager.
- Must meet and maintain all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties.
- Complete knowledge of all Wellness Center safety protocols and confidence communicating via radio/overhead and with EMS as needed.
- Represent Humboldt Park Health in a positive and professional manner.
Position Requirements:
- Personal Training certification from NASM, ACE, ACSM or equivalent required.
- CPR/AED certification is required.
- Previous experience Personal Training required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related discipline preferred.
- Experience working with special populations preferred.
- Ability to teach group exercise classes is a plus.
- Be dependable, alert, and able to interact with members and guests in a positive manner.
- Maintain composure and act appropriately in moments when multiple unexpected challenges arise concurrently.
- Possess a passion for fitness, health, athletics, and wellness. Enthusiastic, professional, and genuine demeanor.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
