ABOUT THE JOB
The Electrical Engineer will provide technical support on the development of feasible new product designs and schematics. They will be responsible for the definition of specifications, material requirements and the costs associated with engineering products in response to customer or market requirements. Upon receipt of customer order or opening of a project, the Electrical Engineer will prepare design and product layout along with other engineering activities, including material requisition, to ensure the order or project is cost effective, acceptable design, and that it is completed on time and within budget.
RESPONSIBILITIES
o Perform electrical design and engineering work on new products, special projects, proposals and customer orders as assigned by supervisor; provide work direction to designers and drafters as appropriate.
o Coordinate activities between electrical engineering and project management personnel during all phases of the project/order to ensure quality designs are produced.
o Provide technical guidance to application engineering personnel with respect to product applications, capabilities, and costs.
o Determine and specify electrical components, materials, instrument requirements, special instructions and manual contents for new product design projects or customer orders.
o Perform regular quality and design conformance inspections on work-in-process in manufacturing and at subcontract vendors. Initiate action and provide technical direction to resolve product configuration and/or performance discrepancies.
o Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support with respect to manufacture, testing, installation, and operation of product.
o Monitor and establish accountability on the overall progress of projects to ensure completion within schedule guidelines. May develop schedules, estimates, and budgets for assigned projects. Identify and investigate potential schedule disruptions and directs engineering support activities in order to expedite projects.
o Monitor and establish accountability on cumulative material and engineering labor hour costs as compared to original engineering estimates for all projects. Analyze variances or anticipated variances and take action as necessary to correct potential cost overruns.
o Assist project management personnel with the final closure of PM-managed customer orders.
o Provide ongoing technical guidance to customers and other departments.
o Provide field service work as required.
o Participate in pre-sale and post-sale meetings with customers as assigned.
o Participate in other special projects as assigned, supporting department activities, overall goals and objectives.
Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS
o B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering (or 2-year technical degree and equivalent experience).
o 5+ years of related electrical engineering experience, design calculations for sizing equipment, component selection and specification.
o Project experience, including scheduling and project budget management.
o Proficient in the use of Computer-Aided-Design (AutoCAD preferred) and PLC programming.
o Knowledge and understanding of NFPA 70 and 79.
o Good organization, communication, analytical and project management skills.
o Previous experience with the design of electrical systems for heat processing or refrigerated equipment, PID control instruments, MMI programming (LabVIEW preferred) and electrical wiring trouble shooting.
