Position Summary
At PROENERGY, we emphasize a ONE-TEAM approach where our Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start-Up, Document Controls, and Operations teams work seamlessly for our clients as a solutions provider for the power industry. We seek a client facing Project Engineering Manager that will own the scope, budget, and schedule of your projects. You will lead a multi-discipline team of engineers to produce engineering and design deliverables on our PowerFLX EPC project work. The role will initially provide third party engineering oversight and engineering management, reporting directly to the VP of PowerFLX Engineering as we continue to build our in-house EPC engineering team. You will need to work collaboratively with our integrated EPC team along with our clients to execute and provide world class, quality focused deliverables for our construction team. Your ability to adapt and be flexible will be invaluable as you coordinate multiple jobs, develop guidelines and procedures, and provide engineering oversight to our subsidiaries. As we lead the transition from reliance on third party engineers to building and managing a fully functional in-house engineering team your discipline expertise and technical knowledge will greatly impact the business planning to add engineering quality standards and developing our own deliverables.
Location: This position would start as hybrid role as we identify our Kansas City metro area office location.
Position Responsibilities
- Client facing and will manage to the scope, budget, and schedule of projects you are assigned to, inclusive of executing change management.
- Initially provide third party engineering oversight and engineering management for the multi-disciplined engineering team responsible for the development and/or system integration of control, electrical, mechanical, structural and process designs as we build our internal team
- Lead a multi-discipline team of engineers to produce deliverables on our PowerFLX Engineer, Procure and Construct (EPC) work
- Owns the technical design of the project and may also be the engineer of record or engineering lead for a specific discipline.
- Work collaboratively with our integrated EPC team along with our clients to execute RFIs, deliverable reviews, change order requests, engineering equipment buyout, etc
- Develop the engineering project team vision, identify priorities, and align with operational goals.
- Owns interdisciplinary coordination and removes roadblocks for your team to ensure baseline schedule and budget success.
- Foster high performing teams and behavior to execute projects.
- Ability to mentor and develop team members including technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
- Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, the quality of the work product, and operating efficiencies.
- Help develop, review and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure engineering standardization and templating of our PowerFLX work.
- Identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and a means to manage KPI tracking and reporting.
- Stay up to date with the latest technology and industry practices and finds practical applications.
- Develop and execute a communications plan, ensuring project team members are informed of strategy, shared goals, policies, practices and programs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management (or similar field) from an accredited program
- Eight (8) years of experience in related work experience
- Two (2) or more years of engineering project management or lead level discipline engineer experience in an EPC environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- The position requires the ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
- Proficient in interpreting and providing direction on project controls and scheduling
- Independently applies knowledge and ensures compliance with quality program. Establishes related processes, and promotes a culture that is conducive to quality. Provides guidance and direction to others. Supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Good negotiation, presentation and persuasion skills. Experienced in communicating ideas, winning approval, and reaching resolutions with a variety of audiences
- Ability to manage projects and progress ideas to execution in a complex environment
- Strong analytical ability along with the capacity to interpret data and make recommendations
- Comfortable with change and ambiguity; adaptable, collaborative and a systems thinker
- Proactively provides guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes
- Actively manages project changes directly with the Client with supervision from the Project Manager
- Perform work safely and effectively. Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
- Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines. Work overtime and weekends as required.
- US work authorization is a precondition of employment. The company will not consider candidates who require sponsorship for a work-authorized visa.
- Successful candidate will need to satisfactorily complete pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Desired Qualifications
- Registered Professional Engineer in any discipline (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or I&C)
- Advanced ability to interpret engineering deliverable content as assigned.
- Engineering and Design software knowledge (E3D, Plant 3D, SmartPlant, Aeries, ETAP, Fathom, Tekla, MathCAD, etc)
- Aconex Document Controls software knowledge
- Clear understanding of construction and constructability practices & principles
- Working knowledge of procurement and contract administration
- Working knowledge of process, procedures for project controls and estimating
- Advanced knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal and estimate process
- Intermediate business and financial acumen
- Owner or Client engineering background
