Summary - Sr. Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking a candidate experienced in DoD C4ISR military designs to lead the mechanical engineering design activities. The successful candidate will be a hands-on designer, ensuring, first and foremost that our company proprietary design techniques are incorporated into all of our rugged products, along with ensuring the integrity of design, manufacturability, producibility and that schedules are met. Key attributes for the successful candidate are to have experience in mechanical engineering techniques, ruggedization compounds and build techniques.
Job Duties:
- Interprets customer specifications to define requirements for mechanical designs using machined
aluminum and bent metal.
- Creates mechanical layouts and design concepts for new products using SOLIDWORKS®
- Works with electrical engineers to ensure proper placement and wiring of circuit card assemblies.
- Knowledge of properties for material such as metals, plastics, adhesives and gaskets.
- Knowledge of fastening hardware.
- Experience in mechanical design for shock, vibration, and thermal management.
- Develops detailed fabrication and assembly drawings and performs tolerances analysis.
- Evaluate design features and mechanical fit for first article units.
- Work with the engineering team during product design, integration and testing.
- Works with Prototype team to build product prototypes to validate designs and work instructions.
- Collaborates with other divisions and departments as necessary.
- Creates cable drawings and routing.
- Create BOMs, work instructions, test procedures and product specifications.
- Generates engineering change notices (ECNs) and reviews the work of peers.
- Generates project cost estimates and selects components for various designs.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new processes, technologies, and systems to
improve and streamline department processes
Requirements:
- Strong experience with SOLIDWORKS and best practices for building models and maintaining libraries
- Attention to detail; Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge/experience of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends related to mechanical
processes and suppliers
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals within established engineering
procedures and best practices.
- Expected to operate with a wide degree of self-management, creativity, and latitude.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Willingness to learn NetSuite ERP System
- Experience in the production of display, computing, and peripheral products per military
specifications preferred
- Familiar with DoD standards and mil specs related to manufacturing of rugged products
- Experience with machine shops and CNC processes
Education and Experience:
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- 8-12 years relevant experience
