At Meda, we help BIPOC entrepreneurs grow their businesses by providing financing and business consulting solutions and connecting them to corporate and government opportunities. We are looking for an experienced Business Consultant to join our team in our office at Plymouth and Penn in Minneapolis.
This position is responsible for providing business-consulting services to BIPOC-owned businesses poised for growth in Contracting, Financing, Teaming, Joint-Ventures, and Mergers & Acquisitions. Business Consultants will use their analytical and problem-solving skills and broad-based business knowledge to work with clients on strategy, planning and problem solving. They will help customers develop business skills and knowledge and connect businesses to resources and opportunities for growth. This position will work closely with other consultants, departments, and volunteers.
Essential Duties
1. Provide strategic business consulting to start or grow, scalable business ventures through the acquisition of companies, contracts, and other business opportunities
2. Help MBEs to win deals in contracts; federal, state, and local governments and primes, with an emphasis on the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act and related procurement opportunities
3. Vet and establish a portfolio within 60 days of “Shovel Ready” MBEs to compete for federal contracting opportunities. Continually identify and assist new prospects
4. Facilitate transaction and business-matchmaking events with government and private sector primes
5. Assist with contract readiness – the development of go-to-market strategies, statements of qualifications, registrations, and certifications
6. Provide best-in-practice financial planning, cash flow modeling and capital structures, access to capital, contracts-bonding and related sureties. Be conversant in alternative capital products and equities
7. Evaluate, develop, and advise on the execution of Teaming and Joint Ventures, Mergers & Acquisitions, Business Continuity and Succession Strategies
8. Perform due diligence, advise on key terms and conditions, deal structure, and options
9. Develop a network of brokers, business owners, legal and accounting partners, and other stakeholders
10. Provide Local Market Intelligence: Serve as liaisons to coordinate with other governmental agencies, Governor’s offices, National Association of State Procurement Officials (local level), major prime contractors, diverse chambers, business development organizations, and trade associations, on opportunities specifically related to IIJA funded contracting
- Develop and maintain a list of contacts with Government, Nonprofits and Prime Contractors handling IIJA and other related procurement opportunities
- Map and communicate the pipeline of IIJA opportunities and facilitate deal sourcing
11. Engage Regional and National Network Coordination: Work with MBDA headquarters, MBDA’s Procurement Business Development Specialists, and the MBDA Federal Procurement Center
- Collaborate with MBDA partners to build relevant relationships and systems to track IIJA projects and large federal investments
- Participate in monthly meetings with MBDA’s IIJA Team and Representatives
- Capture and document transactional activities in Salesforce
- Map opportunities and the ecosystem of resources, partners, and stakeholders
- Document and submit success stories
12. Minimum Service Deliverables:
- Assist 33 MBDA clients
- Assist with the development of 18 Proposals and Teaming or Joint Venture Agreements
- Help to prepare 24 Minority Business Certifications
- Help to develop 25 Capability Statements or Statements of Qualification
- Plan, arrange, and conduct 4 B2G (Business to Government) Matchmaking events
- Assist with the award of $8,250,000 in contract and financial awards to MBE’s.
Qualified Applicants will have:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance or other related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in business consulting with a proven track record of success.
- Creative problem solving skills and the ability to distill and communicate complex subjects.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and other business data.
- Broad knowledge of business and market forces.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, and collaborative working style.
- High level of cultural sensitivity.
- Ability to write and edit effectively.
- Organized, with effective time management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Preference will be given to applicants 3 years of business consulting experience and experience in business development.
