Assistant Teacher:
Competitive salary range $40,000 - $55,000, commensurate with experience
Overview
We are seeking passionate and dedicated Early Childhood Assistant Teachers for our brand new, dynamic pre-k early childhood special needs program in Brooklyn, New York. This role is ideal for those deeply committed to the development and education of young children with special needs. The successful candidates will work closely with the lead teacher to support the implementation of curriculum and ensure a safe and stimulating environment for all students in a 6:1:2 or 8:1:2 preschool classroom. Please note that this is a 12-month position. Join us in making a significant impact in the lives of young children with special needs.
Key Responsibilities - Collaborate with lead teacher to ensure that all children’s educational, developmental, and emotional needs are met. - Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) for each student, in collaboration with the lead teacher, other professionals and parents. - Work with the lead teacher to monitor and assess student progress, adapting teaching strategies and techniques to meet the varying needs and interests of students. - Foster a nurturing, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment. - Assist in maintaining an engaging and safe classroom environment - Participate in and contribute to professional staff team meetings - Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications
- High School graduate. Enrollment in a college program in Special Education, Early Childhood Education, or a related field or Bachelor's degree preferred;
- Valid Level 1 or higher NYS teaching assistant certificate required
- Preferred, at least 1 year experience working with young children with special needs in an educational setting - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to engage with children, parents, and colleagues. - A deep commitment to inclusive education and a passion for making a difference in the lives of children with special needs.
