Castle & Cooke Building Materials Division in Lake Elsinore, CA is searching for a highly motivated Safety Manager responsible for managing and implementing safety policies, programs, training and regulatory compliance as they pertain to company policies, procedures, OSHA, MSHA, DOT and federal and state laws. The division consists of three companies, Pacific Clay Products, Inc., a brick manufacturer, Pacific Aggregates, Inc., supplier of rock and sand, and Rancho Ready Mix, a ready mix concrete supplier. This position requires excellent communication, coaching and computer skills.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Administer, direct and manage compliance with the company’s safety program. This includes the recommendation of a change or adjustment in work processes and procedures as may be required to insure the safety of affected employees and the general public.
- Assess risks and ensure that control measures are in place, utilized and effective
- Initiate, perform and document jobsite inspections and audits with special emphasis on hazard recognition and unsafe behaviors. This necessitates the ability to think independently, communicate thoroughly and facilitate the implementation of corrections/behaviors.
- Initiate, coordinate and conduct safety walks, meetings and training programs, including new hire orientation, specific tasks, hazardous material, spill prevention and MSHA refresher training, etc., to ensure effective communication of company policies and safety standards.
- Coordinate and participate in regulatory agency inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
- Collect pre-shift safety inspection forms, review and sign. Follow up on any safety items listed on forms. Take care of safety items that need attention if able or delegate to lead persons as needed.
- Maintain all MSHA/OSHA regulations for a surface mine site.
- Coordinate and conduct safety training for commercial drivers, as required by the Department of Transportation.
- Primary contact for all injuries and accidents. Conducts accident/injury investigations
- Prepares and submits injury/accident reports to organization’s worker’s compensation administrator and record injury in OSHA log & MSHA website. Correspond with occupational medical clinic and worker’s compensation administrator as needed.
- Travel to various CCBM locations to conduct site-specific inspections and training.
- Must have good communication skills and ability to instruct by individual or group setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, environmental safety or similar field preferred. High school diploma required with a minimum of 2 years of college or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Four (4) to Eight (8) years’ experience in a manufacturing safety role
Two (2) to Four (4) years’ experience at a mining plant preferred
One (1) to three (3) years of supervisory experience is preferred
Licenses/Certificates:
First Aid/CPR, OSHA-30 and MSHA Certifications are required.
Valid CA driver’s license with good driving record
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must exhibit effective applied leadership skills. Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures. Strong communication and interpersonal skills including conflict resolution. Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, Excel, Word and Powerpoint. Ability to plan and manage work effectively. Must represent company in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel. Familiarity with Dept. of Transportation safety regulations. Willing and able to travel between business locations and to accident sites. Requires knowledge of and awareness of construction and/or mining site hazards. Possible irregular and long hours
