Position: Prevention Educator
Job Type: Full-Time
Supervisor: Prevention and Education Director
Location: Travel between Freestone, Hill, and Limestone Counties and the Waco Office
Starting Salary: $40,000
Notes: This position is grant funded and guaranteed to be available until August 30, 2025. The existence of this position after that will be dependent on available grant funds.
General Duties: Under the direction of the Prevention and Education Director, the Prevention Educator will implement outreach, training, and primary prevention programming (education seminars, outreach activities, training programs, preparation of informational materials, community mobilization and social norms change) in the rural counties served by the Advocacy Center.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Prevention and Education Director in the development and implementation of all rural county training and outreach programming.
2. Assists the Prevention and Education Director in the development and implementation of rural county training and outreach programming.
3. Provide group facilitation in schools, churches, and youth groups, on a variety of topics including: healthy relationships, conflict resolution, consent, teen dating violence, good/bad touch, feelings, bullying, internet safety, and more, with the aim of preventing sexual violence and creating meaningful change in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that support sexual violence.
4. Provide trainings on sexual assault.
5. Prepare materials for groups and presentations.
6. Staff an agency booth at community events and provide information about sexual assault and sexual assault services.
7. Complete required paperwork after each group facilitation and presentation.
8. Create relevant and informational social media content and other online resources to change social norms that might lead to the perpetration of sexual violence.
9. Assist in the planning and execution of community-level prevention efforts and initiatives.
10. Participate in and initiate community outreach efforts in the rural counties via public speeches, informational booths, articles, newsletters, etc.
11. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Training, experience, and education must support the position
- A Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, psychology, public health, or sociology preferred
- English and Spanish fluency strongly preferred
Experience:
- Experience engaging community members and a variety of stakeholders from diverse backgrounds
- Must demonstrate ability to initiate and maintain dialogue with individuals, including children and youth, and organizations with diverse experience and viewpoints, in a variety of settings, and on a wide range of sometimes taboo and uncomfortable topics
- Knowledge of sexual assault with trauma issues related to children, adults and families is critical to the delivery of services.
Other Skills and Requirements:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required
- Familiarity with social media and content creation
- Must communicate well and function responsibly in a team setting and independently.
- Must demonstrate awareness of and a commitment to culturally competent and sensitive practice.
- Will be required to drive to a variety of locations in the six counties that the Advocacy Center serves as need arises and funding allows, for which they will be reimbursed.
- A resident of Bosque, Falls, Freestone, Hill, or Limestone county is strongly preferred.
- Commitment to the goals, objectives, and values of the Advocacy Center.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License
