POSITION DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We are seeking a Jr. Traffic Engineer to assist with traffic and transportation engineering projects in the public sector. This role involves complex analysis, design, and implementation of traffic systems to support public infrastructure improvements, with a focus on enhancing safety, efficiency, and sustainability. You will play a key role in projects that significantly affect the regional transportation network, working closely with public agencies, contractors, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of traffic engineering plans, with focus on a major BRT corridor.
- Develop and review signing and striping plans to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Collaborate with senior engineers and project managers to integrate traffic engineering elements into the overall project design.
- Conduct field investigations and data collection as needed to support design decisions.
- Utilize CAD software to create, modify, and review technical drawings and plans.
- Ensure all designs adhere to relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Participate in project meetings and provide technical input on traffic engineering matters.
- Prepare technical reports, summaries, and documentation as required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in traffic engineering, with a focus on signing and striping.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Familiarity with California and FHWA MUTCD, Caltrans standards, Public Works Construction standards, and Work Area Traffic Control Manual for pavement markings and signs.
- Knowledge of traffic engineering principles, standards, and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- EIT certification is a plus; willingness to pursue Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is highly desirable.
Primary Location: Long Beach, CA
Local Los Angeles County / Orange County candidates preferred.
